My buddy BC and I got an Alberta double on whitetails today.

I shot this guy right about 8:30. I have not scored it, but it's somewhere right about 150". One shot at 150 yards, with a 200gr Nosler Accubond from my M-700 8x57.
I hit him right in front of his left shoulder and the bullet went right out the center of his ribs on the right side.

Two hours later BC shot this 150-ish buck. Also about 150 yards, one shot right through the neck. It was the only shot he had, as the buck was standing in tall grass with brush also in the way.

Here's the two bucks together. I think the deer BC shot had the genetics to be a real giant, if it had grown up. Look at the small body, I think the thing was only 2-1/2 years old... it's the 'runt' on the right...

I (green) scored my buck today. Gross score is right at 140". Short points and short main beams; he looks bigger than he really is. The busted G1 on the right side is the biggest deduction. Overall, there's 4-2/8" deductions, so the final score is a ground-shrinking 135-6/8".

But I would shoot it again, under the same circumstances.

Can't wait for spring black bear! :)

Nice work, guys! I see, D, that you still have your "Classic" 700 in 8x57. [I still have mine, too] I went the other route this year and hunted with a levergun in an "older" chambering. Buck I shot is a 140ish Whitey also. Enjoy, Eagleye.

Eagleye I hunted moose with my Winchester M-1895 Repro', in .30-06, with the irons. Did pretty good.

Yes, this buck, that I shot Monday, was taken with the 2004 M-700 Classic.
The stock that came with it, is in the safe, so it doesn't get beat up. The stock you see on the rifle in these pics, is from an older M-700 Classic that I had to buy after breaking the original Monte Carlo stock that was on my .30-06... kind of a long story.
Anyway, that stock is beat to hell now. Kinda how I roll. You can maybe see that, in this pic...

So both my hunts were with new-old rifles in very old, classic cartridges. Well really, the 8x57 is 'the cartridge', isn't it? It is the inspiration for the .30-03, which of course is where the .30-06 came from, which of course is the greatest of all cartridges, not named 8x57!

Man, that 200gr Accubond is the 'Bees-Knees', in that 8x57!

You have that right!! I have shot a couple of moose with mine now, using the 200 AB. Neither went more than 15 yards. What are you using for a load, if I may ask? [I'm using 50+ grains of Vihtavuori N550] Regards, Eagleye.

^ Eagleye, my load is 53grs H-414 and that chrony's at 2645fps MV.
My shot pancaked that whitetail! Although he did manage to get back up to his feet, he only took 2 more steps.
