Alberta Draws are up

Oh heck ya!

Just talked with my ol hunting buddy Merv. His wife got skunked so she will get the early season cow Elk.

Merv on the other hand got both his Cow Moose and Cow Elk.:) That means I get to go hunting with my all my hunting buddies this year.:dancingbanana:

Nugget is sure to get his speed goat as well. I am stoked!:D

I got completely shut-out. No mule deer buck, no cow elk, no bull moose, but the under-subscribed will have to work. Dang that's too bad. There's some nice mulies hangin out in the back pasture.

Well....I had a lucky year this year......

Applied for 108 Antlered Elk and managed to snag it. Its the first year for the season and I got my first choice with a Priority 8....

Dad drew an Antlered MD tag in 108 as well....should be a fun combo hunt....

I also have an antlerless MD in 108 and my Antlered MD in 118....

Should be a great season!!

From Nova scotia here so I just have a question. What does "with his priority" mean?

Anyone?

Thanks

Here's the readers digest version:

Everytime you apply for one of these draws (lottery), and are NOT succesful, you are give a credit (a priority point) for your attempt. That point carries forwarded towards the next years draw, and depending on how many people apply for that same gender / species / season / zone - the draw systems would attempt to accomodate your preference as a priority.

So, when you read posts of folks who are "Priority 6", that means that they have applied to get drawn for a particular gender / species / season / zone for the last 6 years. Some areas in ALberta are very popular, and it takes several attempts to get drawn - so you have to build up a minimum level of priority.

If you are succesful in a draw - your draw priority for that particular gender / species / season / zone is reset to zero. And you start all over again.

Hope this helps, Hakx

Was drawn for two of the four I put in for - Camp "W" deer and anterless mulie. With the general season tags it should still be a busy Fall!:dancingbanana:

I was kind of surprised how low the #828 Camp hunt went - maybe not too many people put in for it because of the proximity to the CWD areas?

How low did it go?

What pri where you?

I 999 'd my Antlered Mulie and Antlered Moose, so should be pri 5 on both next year. Dunno if I'll even be around, but I'll be up in the pool, anyways. Apparently I can keep my priority as a non-resident Canadian, so it's not a loss if I end up moving out of province.
Meh. It's only about $30 down the drain over the years, if I never come back to use the priority, anyway.

Cheers

I also got Camp Wainright 828. I had only one priority point. A bit surprised, but I think that it being the last date of the year may have something to do with it.

Also, there are a select few hunts that don't allow priority points to accumulate. The best example of that is the recently anounced Bison hunt. There is only one area to hunt them, a VERY limited amount of tags available, and a lot of hunters wanting them. If they did priority for this hunt, eventually it could take a priority of 20 - 30 before getting drawn. They are keeping it a true lottery to make it fair. But most hunts allow for accumulating points.

Thanks so much, clear as day now!

Too bad Nova scotia wouldn't do something like this !

Camp Wainwright

Not uncommon at all. Although CWD may of had some influence, the 3rd and 4th season are pretty much the "sloppy seconds" of the base hunt:eek:

The most desired hunts are 825 (primitive) and 826 (first rifle) - the animals are everywhere and it is a shooting gallery:dancingbanana:. After that, the animals are VERY skittish.

YOU HAVE TO PARK THE TRUCK AND GO FOR A WALK. A lot of folks cruise Circle Route and the Fireguard in the Annex area, but by about the third 3-day season, those road allowances are packed down like a super highways, and the deer are educated. The deer hang deep in the bush and bolt at the slightest disturbance, or make there way to the permanent danger areas that are strictly out of bounds.

Got #828 on a priority 2. It's the second to last rifle hunt and the animals will have been pushed pretty hard by then but it's still a great time with some good people. Last minute garlic sausage for Christmas!;)
