Alberta Draws

As expected I didn’t draw anything, I was hoping for my cow elk in 504 but knew I was probably one point short. My son did get his bull moose so we will partner tag on our property. We have a full quarter of bush, surrounded on all sides by crop and a very healthy moose population on it. We called in numerous bulls last year and did get one the last day of the season. This year we have them patterned better, we did call in five that never presented proper shots. Let the fun begin.

The deer in many areas of Alberta are very numerous and it's usually to get 3 or 4 tags over the counter. Indeed, in 357 they were giving out double tags for elk as well. The population can support it at the present time

I 999'd most of my draws, but I did get both my antlerless whitetail and mule deer.

My hunting partner and mentor got his antlered mule deer. We are targeting this guy we came across last year, but didn't have a tag for him. He didn't get harvested, so he is still around, and we are the only ones to have access to this 6000+ acres... He will be listing me as a hunter partner, he's at the age where he isnt so steady aiming anymore, and he wants me to bag it.

That's a fat bit o' venison right there. I'm thinking just a quick soak in in some white wine and then some salt, pepper, garlic powder before the hot plancha. Might I also suggest a Rioja Riserva to wash it down, with a nice shot of whiskey for afters? That's where my mind's at, if and when I fill my tags.

Finally pulled my trophy antelope tag in WMUs 150-151-152 after more than 1-1/2 *decades* of waiting. This will be my first time hunting speed goats since 2006.

Also scored a cow moose tag in WMU 352.

The problem in all this is that with the recent changes in Alberta that now allow 10 year olds to hunt big game, I'm suddenly about to become a guide to my little guy. He has big plans for a black bear, a cougar, a bull elk, a whitetail buck, a supplemental whitetail doe, and (via a youth partner license) a crack at my cow moose. Given how well he's shooting his .243 in practice sessions, I'm going to be too busy being a guide to actually do much hunting myself :)
