Welp, seems to be that time here in rural Alberta when driving down the highway usually ends in 4-5 gopher splatters between home and your destination. I've come to realize over the years that the gophers inhabiting our peaceful little valley, well, they aren't too smart.

They are so incredibly dumb that they seem to mess up their own routines. On 3 separate, but nearly identically weathered days, I've had luck in the evening, then only at noon, then non at all. When have you guys been having the most luck popping these furry little buggers, and what do you use to get 'em?

Ever since I was a kid I've been using my grandpa's Model 75 .22LR from when he was a kid (40's, 50's?), and it still shoots straight as an arrow.

10-04 on the Browning lever action. After shooting it for 30 years, I don't even have to aim anymore. We're just starting to see them come out in the Edmonton area, but the snow has only been gone for a week now.

I just like shooting them, but if you are a land owner and you are really trying to rid the fields, then get the gun out early. The males come out of hibernation first to eat before they go back to mate. Less males... less mating... less gophers

Did I say I just like shooting them? :)

I just got back from Tofield and Ryley. It was very nice out. I wacked approximately 200 gophers out there today. I have used the Savage model 93 stainless bolt action HB in 22wm with accu-trigger for few years. I love it, Very accurate!!!. The HIT ratio was 98%+. Very impressive. I bought another Savage model93 bolt action HB with thumb-hole stainless in 17HMR last Christmas....and the Savage markII FV bolt, HB in .22LR today...on the way home!...I can't help it...the Savage markII & the model 93 are so accurate & good in value...that I think every rim fire & small game lovers should have one...or two....I have 7!
CHEERS
