This is the first year one of us in my hunting group of 3 people hasn't been drawn for Elk and you get 2 tags when drawn in S.E. Alberta. Last year we drove the 1/2 hour to where a heard was at 6:30, had 2 Elk down by 10:00, had them both cleaned and quartered and home hanging in the shed by 5:00. The past 4-5 years we fill both tags in 1 day 2 at most but we know lots of ranchers in the area that give us a call and let us know where a heard is that morning. No dragging them out of the bush and you just drive right up to them to retrieve, bald azz prairie here. We clean them with the gutlass method and just leave the carcass there for the Yotes. We take the head in and pull the ivories first. I'm sure there are people here that could arrange to take you out and I'm one of them, but you need to be drawn for tags in my area. I'm not sure what the head count is here anymore but a few years back it was around 8000 in our area.
