Alberta hunters wild last day

My Father years ago had a shot fired at him years ago, after he calmed down he aproached the man and started talking with him like nothing happened, commented the hunter that the rifle was one of the nicest he had ever seen (A very nice old sako)and asked if he could take a closer look. The hunter handed my father the rifle thinking that my father was envious of the nice firearm and then my father proceded to wrap the rifle around the nearest tree, then my father told the guy that he hunted the area quite often and if the idiot even scoped him again the next one would be wrapped around his neck! My Father said he never saw the idiot ever again (I guess sometimes a short temper is a good thing):D

I agree. I know all about old time hunters, the ones who fed families with wild game, through absolute neccessity. Some of them were the most careless gun handlers I have ever seen.

I've got a couple of uncles who fall into this category. Though not hunters by absolute necessity, they did hunt to help put food on the table pretty much all of their young lives (family of 13 kids) and then continued to hunt into adulthood. All grew up in farm country on the Oregon coast and all grew up hunting but talk about a complete lack of regard for any form of safety. Rednecks every one of them, drove around in pick-ups drinking until they could barely see. If they happened on a deer or elk sometime in the morning they were okay as they were just buzzed, otherwise any later and chances are they would be too pissed to get out of the truck and actually stand up straight let alone line up and take a responsible shot. Thank god they're pretty much all done with their hunting days now.

Worst thing that ever happened almost cost them their mother's life (my grandmother). They came home from a day of hunting and one of them leaned his rifle up against the wall. It fell over onto the floor and discharged (because of course he had left it loaded and without the safety on evidently). The bullet went through the wall into the dining room and hit my grandmother in the arm. Luckily she was a rather heavyset woman and her arm was raised a bit so it passed through and through the fatty tissue underside of her tricep. Could have been a lot worse though.

It has been proven that Blaze Orange doesn't help, I think good quality optics and making sure of your target would prevent these incidents in the future.
