Hey Guys,

Had a friend out here this week looking for a big mule buck. We hunted all day Thursday and saw over 100 deer including a couple that were 'close' decent bucks. One deer was a really good buck but unfortunatly was in a spot that I dont have permission this year. He was very tall with deep forks and looked pretty good.

Overall monster buck numbers were down in the zone but we managed to do okay with a TON of hiking. We spotted this buck first thing and knew he was an older warrior. Small front end made him a bit tough to decide on, but my buddy figured he was worth shooting as we hadnt seen any giants and our weather was tough. We made a short stalk and put him on the ground. Big old heavy monarch! I shot two does with his rifle a couple hours later after the work was over.

Shot with the Lazzeroni 7.21 Tomahawk at 220 yards, 140 Accubond.

Sorry for the lack of good pics. Friend has more pics on his camera....

I didnt include the shooter in any pics as I'm not sure he wanted his photo posted online.....so you get to see me instead!

Very nice Trev. I have been struggling to find any sort of decent mule up here.

Tough year down here for sure as well. We managed to get Kim a good buck in a different zone, and then this zone we hunted today has been a hard go at finding 'big' bucks. This guy was just a cool old buck and on a short 3 day hunt he was cool to shoot.

Overall, seems harder and harder to find good mulies this year....

Nice buck for this year.

That cold spell in December last year was hard on the old timers I think. The late spring/summer this year did not help either. Many places that usually have abundant feed in the fall are almost barren this year. Feed growth was minimal in many areas, resulting in fairly poor antler growth I think.

I agree....there are TONS of does still out there but a lack of the bigger older bucks (which is weird). I think some of the does had a rough winter but there are still a lot of em out there.....

Nice buck...cool to see a large rack.
The zone I'm in has a bazillion mulies and I only have white tail tags. Very few whitetail seen..I did see one monster racked mulie who stared at us for a few minutes before wandering off into the bush.
Going back out again tomorrow.

I think I drew my tag a year late. Winter kill was an issue on the herds I hunted but the whitetail population is exploding.

Agreed on both counts. Seeing fewer big mulie bucks (both in new areas and in traditional hunting haunts) but jeezum crow are there whitetails everywhere
