Alberta rifle matches

Heck, if you can't make a clinic, but can make a match, you're welcome as well.

Just a quick note to those lurkers out there - biggest concern of new shooters seems to be that there are no muzzle brakes allowed. When you shoot 'shoulder to shoulder' on a mound, a muzzle brake may give you a bit of a cone of silence, but it's hell on the adjacent shooters, so they are not allowed. F-Open has some pretty wild cartridges out there and they don't get fatigued by recoil. In .308, the heavies (like the 210 gr Berger VLDs), can be shot without the need for a muzzle break. So don't sweat it (FWIW - I shoot the 210s and I took my brake off years ago to shot F-Class).

Can you guys make a point of explaining which matches are F-Class, TR Service Rifle etc?

The schedule has too much jargon for a new shooter trying to understand what is what...

To play in the FARA matches I'm assuming I need a membership to the FARA?

I assume you mean the APRA...

You need a membership with the a Provincial Rifle Association to shoot on the APRA range. I'm from Saskatchewan and hold a SPRA membership so I can shoot there on my SPRA card at a regular match or competition, but you do need a PRA card. The SPRA and APRA both have their own range (non-military) so you do not need a DCRA card too. In all the other PRA's you would need a DCRA card too since they are all on military ranges.

the AFRA is the new alberta fullbore rifle association. if your not a local shooter around calgary, then you don't need to have a membership.
cheers

hey guys new member. . . definately caught my ear with this thread. i have a savage .243 target rifle that I would't mind checking out on some longer distance shots than the 300 yds I was plinking out at the farm. does a .243 fall into the F class?

A 308 and 223 (5.56 mm) with a scope fall in to F-TR, EVERYTHING else falls into F-Open, so Yes a .243 Win with a scope on it or even using peeps or irons is in F-Open in FClass due to the case/cartridge.
