I am wondering about the rules of purchasing another pistol in Alberta. I have a long term ATT already for my old pistol (that I sold a couple years back). Would I need to provide proof of range membership to the CFO again or do you simply do it once and that's it?

If it makes a difference, it will be mailed...

My LTATT is/was due to expire in Nov and my RPAL expires in 2014. The last transfer I made, they volunteered to top my LTATT up to match my RPAL expiry. I simply emailed them a pdf copy of my range membership and voila a LTATT extension to 2014 arrived.

What is legal and what can you get away with?

Legally if you do not belong to a sanctioned range etc, then your ATT is not valid even if it doesn't expire for years. Similar to having insurance when you licence your car - if the insurance expires a week after you get your licence then are you legal to drive?

You will have to provide proof of membership each time you apply for your RPAL. They now match expiry dates so both the RPAL and ATT are the same.

.... You can still own a car if you don't have insurance. I was not planning on going out to shoot the said pistol anytime soon. If I was, I would just head over to a drop in shooting place (Phoenix Gun Range).

just went through same thing, I'm member of a range so i was ready to send the proof but they said LTATT is still valid so i didnt have to send any proof. As guys mentioned above I also think its not legal to use that LTATT and if you dont want to pay for full membership associate membership is cheap.
