The problem as I see it is that you are from out of province and will need a guide or hunter host. Overcome that and good luck

Non-resident (Canadian) and Non-resident Alien hunters of big game, wolf and coyote must be accompanied by a licensed guide or a Hunter Host. Each of these hunters has two options:

1. he or she may contract the holder of a valid Big Game Outfitter-guide Permit, be guided by a Big Game Designated Guide, and hunt under the authority of a licence allocated to an outfitter-guide (for information on outfitter-guides, contact the Alberta Professional Outfitters Society at apos.ab.ca), OR

2. he or she may be hosted by a Hunter Host (see below) - usually a relative or friend - and hunt according to the following restrictions and conditions: ....

I will be in Cochrane Alberta in early May. I don't have too much free time.
Don't have much time to scout or to drive up north for the prime hunting areas.
Any thoughts on some trips up to 2 hours travelling from Cochrane for a bear hunt for a father and son.
Looking for crown land, again I don't have the time this year to scout out, knock and ask permission on private land.
Please understand, I know this is not the best deal but it is the only option I have this year.
Any thoughts.
Thanks.

Are you being hunter hosted?

Gentlemen. I am a responsible hunter. I have read all the rules and yes I have a local resident / relative hunter to guide me. All paperwork is done or will be filled in when I arrive and will be carried so I can produce to CO.
My relative hunter is new to a spring bear hunt.
So I am looking for spring bear hunt info on areas to go to that produce.
Thanks.

Fly in that ointment is that all the areas that produce are way up North. You'll have a good time anyways and just MAYBE you'll get a bear. Ain't gonna be like a week end in Ft. Mac. :)

Grizz

I don't want to make this into a short story novel, but I will be in Alberta in a few days. I will bring my gun/accessories for a hunt, plus infusion of cash for your province . If I can get a bear that's ok, if not no problem - looking to have a good time with my son. That's all I am looking forward to. Got some good ideas where to go. Thanks to the guys with views on places.
