Alberta to Restrict Métis Hunting and Fishing Rights

It's not a reserve,Its merely a settlement, me , you or anyone can freely go there. The same goes for the wardens. There are no metis police,so all the same laws apply. Just like it is a private farm the game wardens can enter if there is suspect activity.

As a Metis hunter myself...I agree that there are some who do abuse the allowance of harvesting for food. One of the options for a settlement was to have each animal that is harvested to be registered with Fish and Wildlife officers and the antlers handed over. That would be fine with me....because for me its only about the meat...(infact most of the deer or moose i have taken were spikers)

But lets keep in mind that if you don't have hard evidence to prove some are poaching....then the old adage of "Innocent until proven guiltly" has to apply...even if you don't agree with it. After all....its all about equality right?!

And don't label the whole group because of a few guilty ones...

Frog Lake is an Indian Reserve not one of the eight Metis Settlements in Alberta and yes there are differences.There are no other Metis Settlements in Canada, just northern Alberta. They are Buffalo Lake, Kikino, Elizabeth, Fishing Lake, Peavine, East Prairie, Paddle Prairie and Gift Lake. This so called "agreement" has made so many good people uneasy on both sides because it really is unfair and gives the ignorant a semi legitimate vent if they could get they're facts straight. Its not thought out, negotiated or fair and should be scrapped.

Until we have a government that has some stones to stand up to all the minorities, we will have trouble. Why should one group have more rights than another. Let everyone purchace a licence and hunt by the rules. I know of natives that make over 60 th a year, live on a reserve, and still go and shoot moose, any place they want. I wish I was so hard done by.

Why should you guys recieve any sort of benefits that non-metis people dont get?

Last time I checked, whites got nothing special from the government.
 
The way I see it, anyone of any descent in Canada should be allowed equal unrestricted hunting and fishing rights, as long as they live traditional lifestyle, i.e. all yield is consumed by the individual and the individual does not have a job. If at all should be unrestricted hunting and fishing, of which I am not sure. Otherwise it is discrimination.
