A friend of mine and a bunch of his buddies were on a fishing trip last week to Horwood Lodge Fishing Camp up in Timmins Ontario. While fishing they came upon this beauty of a cow. The owner of the lodge told them that there is a herd of about 23 of them in the area. I found this to be a bit odd myself but some of the other lads at the camp claim they saw a cow and two calves exactly the same as this one. Here is a few of the pics they took.

Same thing in sask many years ago - up near Dore Lake. There was a herd of moose that seemed to throw one or two albino calves every year. And then, in the early 70's thay all just disappeared. I never did hear an explanation as to why they showed up or why they disappeared.

Pat, that heards not 2 hours away from me, only they're not albino's, they don't have the red eyes. They're a moose variation just in white, kinda like the black bear cinammon phase.

thats cool i have seen a few white moose in my day and it is a very cool thing to see.

holy crap..... no chit eh.?..i hope you can post in the youth threads
.. im sure a few in there would love to hear of your days that you got to see all of the white bull you have seen;)

Don't go spreading any rumours about mythical Spirit Moose around. Next thing you know some First Nation will claim some cultural significance to their presence, and the Soft Touches in Queen's Park will give them a whole sanctuary. It worked for the Kermode Bears off the BC coast. (Not that I disagree with viewing cultural icons, I just like to see mine through a riflescope.)

Fogducker, you crack me up :D

Weird, I'd really like to see one of those. I wonder what percentage of the moose population ends up like that??? Must be tiny

I wonder if it tastes different than normal moose...someone shoot one and tell me.

I think a huge white moose head on the wall would be kinda cool. A good conversation starter

At the zoo in Aldergrove they have,or had last time i was there, they had a herd of white roosevelt elk from oregon.Same as the moose,no pink eyes, even their antlers were white.

It's always interesting to view these variants. I have seen the white moose at Fort Fraser/Fraser Lake on several occasions, A big cow with a slightly speckled calf one time. Also saw a white bull across Babine lake about 40 years ago, he was about a 35 incher, and was pure white. I could have shot him, as he was a legal animal and I was hunting at the time, but I chose to let him walk. I believe a Cop shot that one the following year and authored an article in a hunting magazine about it. The BC hunting regs make a request that we not shoot them so others can enjoy the privilege of seeing these animals. Regards, Eagleye.
