Actually, you are right on the 225 and 226,

from Massad Ayoob, The gun digest book of Sig Sauer (excellent BTW), the P225 was SIG-SAUER 2nd pistol. It was created when the German govt was looking for a compact LE pistol in 9mm, and high cap mags wasn't a priority. It's a scaled down version of the P220

The P226 was introduced in 83, P226 evolved from the 220 as a High Cap 9mm,


My comments: I don't believe that the 225 is a good combat gun for military, same for door kickers. It is great for CCW, but lack the rounds and has a short barrel.

What makes me a little skeptical is he lists it as having a mag capacity of ten rounds, my 225 only holds eight.

Seeing how aluminum frames don't last as long as steel or plastic, I would be very weary of buying a "well used" one.

Still, I'd love to round out my Sig collection with a 225 and a 228. There is a real cult following for both pistols in the States. Of course I'm always envious of the posts on Sig Forum where they show the "used" pistol and then the results after having it refinished. Not to mention the variety of finishes and places to have it done and places where they will re-build and improve your pistol. I wish we had access to those resources.

You can hear smack just about anything. Let me tell you as a owner of a couple sigs, these are really fine pistols that shoot increadibly accurate strait out the box and you don't have to send them to gunnar to get "cleaned up". My brother in law, who has never shot handgun picked up my 24 year old 220 and hit groups on a target really well at 25 yrds very first time he was out, meanwhile he could hardly hit the side of a barn with my walther(no knock against walther intended).

really? when did that happen i thought it was the still the 92F/M9 for the army
I know the SEALS have been using the 226 since at least 1986
