Has anyone successfully lightened the trigger pull on their 2261? I've had mine for a couple of years but pretty much shoot it in SA only due to the brutally heavy DA trigger pull.

If I could get it down to 9 or 10 lbs. that would be a serious improvement. This is the only revolver I own so I'm not familiar with the mechanics all that well and disassembly videos seem to be non-existent.

Cheers

There is a thread on another Canadian gun forum about an Alpha trigger job. Also youtube has some videos. Easily found with Google. Wolff used to make springs but they don't seem to be listed. HiCal used to carry the spring but no longer have it in stock.

Found them by misspelling Alfa "Alpha".

I just took the side panel off and something went flying. This should be fun.

Good luck! let us know how it turns out! Google is good but misspellings can hide things... When looking for articles I know I have seen for my VW, I search with VW Beatle instead of the correct spelling...

So I have it apart but I'm having a hard time getting it back together. More research is required. Once I'm comfortable with reassembly, I'll start polishing the internals. I'll take pics/video and post my progress in this thread.

I went ahead and attempted the trigger job this weekend. Here's what I did.

I had a bag of springs that I bought at Princess Auto a little while ago so I had a look through it to see if there was something that would work. I found a similar spring but it was a bit shorter than the stock hammer spring. I gave it shot and after reassembling I tested with a trigger pull gauge, ~6 lbs. which was exactly half the stock hammer spring.

I pulled a few rounds of Blazer and tried to fire just the primed cases with the shorter spring but that caused light strikes. Next I tried shimming underneath spring to incrementally increase the pull weight until reliable primer ignition. The primers would only ignite after using 6 washers which caused an 11.5 lbs. trigger pull. No bueno.

I found another one of the shorter PA springs so I cut a 3/8" length from it and added it to full length PA spring. 9.5 lbs. and reliable ignition.

I then degreased, stoned some of the contact surfaces and lubed with lithium grease. It seems to be a bit smoother than before. Next is a range trip to make sure it's 100% reliable.

Cheers

I wonder what they were thinking, and why they haven't corrected the problem. Colt did it in '84 when they went to the MkV, Admitedly the GP100 has a short spring too and does better, so it can be done.

Did you make it to the range?

Yeah, it didn't fire reliably in DA with the 2 piece spring solution. I found an 11.5 lbs. CZ mainspring in my parts bin which was a bit big so I cut it down to about 2". This gave me a 10.5 lbs. DA pull. I fired about 40 rounds of various brands of ammunition with 2 FTFs which I think were caused by me firing too quickly and not allowing the hammer to fully reset. I'm going to do some more testing today.

rustywood had kits made a few years ago. He might tell you the specs for you to go to a spring maker.
