Anyone know how many rounds the 38 sp. alloy frame revolver is rated for? I thought I saw a ad that said they were meant to be light to carry but maybe not hold up like the steel ones? anyone remember?
The 38spl is pretty light when factory rounds are loads. Unless you reload very heavy +P loads I would not worry to much about what you put in it. If you shoot lead the guns will last virtually for ever if cleaned regularly.
Ruger, CZ and Sig are two companies who use an alloy of aluminum for frames and they seem to hold up rather well. No reason for the Alpha Project guns not to as well.
Smith & Wesson also make alloy frame revolvers in (357 magnum) , like m&p R-8, and a few others...
I cant comment on how there holding up but I would think if there shooting 357 magnum ...38 Spec shouldn't be a prob....
I can also remember what my opinions were about alloy and plastic frame guns were when they were coming on the seen ...
Now the best and most durable, (go to war) durability and reliability pistols are alloy or plastic.
The hell of alloy frame guns is that when you get a real shooter - they got shot A LOT. They can't stand up like a steel frame and even with patty-cake loads they will pack it in thousands upon thousands of rounds sooner than a quality steel framed gun. There is nothing more melancholy than a good Gun Nut having to retire a good shooter.
