Alfa Proj, why no fixed sights?

I realize that most people likely prefer adjustable sights but I can't be the only person out there that likes fixed sights on his revolver. These certainly look like the best deal going for new revolvers but I just can't get past the adjustable sights. They make fixed sight models so why is no one bringing them in?

I'm also wondering why the importer went with 4.5" instead of 4.2"?

A fixed sight 9mm with the short cylinder and a half lug 4.2" barrel would make a pretty handy little firearm if you ask me.

So who'd prefer fixed sights?

Because fixed sights locks you into using the same ammo that the sights are regulated for. I love my S&W Model 10 but it only shoots well with 158gn rounds loaded to meet a narrow range of muzzle velocity. If I load 125's into it the POI is suddenly a couple of inches off at 20 yards.

And since most of the AP revolvers are chambered in .357 it would mean that a fixed sight version would be limited to full house .357 if the shooter wants the sights to point where they should. And folks could forget about .38Spl through such a gun going anywhere near where the sights are pointed.

So that would be why the adjustable sights are more suitable for most of us.

In the case of the 9mm revolver you do have a point. But while you and I would likely buy such a gun the overwhelming portion of the market wants adjustable sights. Plus with 9mm ammo coming in 115, 124 and 147gn bullets which would you choose to set the sights for? Because on a revolver it will make a very noticeable difference. Here again adjustable just makes more sense.

I'm with you, I love smooth-top revolvers.

Simplicity breeds reliability. No need to recheck zero after a tumble, if it's on it stays on. Nice fine sight picture. Smoother draw stroke, etc.

Yup, changing ammo can affect your POI. But it can be compensated for with experience.
