Right, I meant my neighbourhood hunters, I don't hunt it at all during the gun season. I feel bad as they only have a 20 acre camp bordering crown land. We all lose but some people are definitely losing more.

bought time the white father gave us back some of our lands. Oh and before anyone else says aboriginals should get a job, I will tell you that my job is to stand and defend your rights as a Canadian and I have done it honourably for the last 19 years!

As for people loosing their hunting land..... Now you know how my ancestors felt when all you whitey's showed up here!! Be glad it is not your home! Oh ya whitey's did that too.

The proposed land is (was) crown land. Everyone could use it. Now, a select group of people are being given land based on race. That in itself is racism. You want "whitey" to stop interfering?? Fine, we can let the rest of the Canadian First Nations communities know that their federal funding has been stopped and they can fend for themselves. I'm sick of this sense of entitlement because of :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug: that happened 300 years ago. Talk about holding a grudge.

My wife is Inuit...She is employed as a Federal prison guard, pays taxes and receives no government handouts.

Because it is my fault your ancestors traded all their land for shiny beads lol

Buy your own land like everyone else. Your 'ancestors' didn't own this land anymore than mine, they just wandered around it.

What good is it anyways that they won some land. Once bill c-45 gets passed they will just lose it all anyways. Harper is taking it to the natives and trying to finish what religion and the residential schools couldn't by stripping us of our rights and culture as aboriginals.

Idle no more!

Oh yeah. IBTL!

Before ya get your panties in a bunch reread my post. I too am employed by a federal agency (Canadian Army) pay my taxes and recieve absolutely no government handouts or assistance.

The OP talked about being screwed out of "his" hunting land. It was never his or his hunting buddies land. Just like others have posted that it was not my peoples land it was not theirs. Now that the shoe is on the other foot and prime hunting areas are being "redistributed" people are all upset. hmm.. sounds familiar, like when the white man "redistributed" prime hunting grounds of my ancestors.

The Ontario Libs stick it to the rural people (non-native) people of this province again.
Windmills, land claims, etc...

I've read the Algonquin hunting treaties and it pisses me off that they get to do a lot more hunting than the rest of us...

That's a lot of parcels of land for (IIRC) 1200 or so Alqonquins to hunt...

I never said you did receive any handouts. Native bands do receive federal funding. The land affected by the claim could always be accessed by the natives, it is crown land. It is for all Canadians to enjoy.

As for the OP, you are right, it was never "his" land. However, I also refer to the chunk of crown where I set up camp as "my" hunting spot. Its just semantics. And he is getting screwed. He is getting screwed out of 500 acres of land he otherwise would have access to.

We can't fix what was done in the past, they can try but it will never work. Yea it sux, your people got screwed over. Boo hoo cry me a river. If your people were still being treated like :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug:, then you might have an argument. But you don't. You are free to travel anywhere in Canada that you want. You are free to live wherever you want. You are free to work on or off reservation. You have the same rights as anyone else, and more rights in some cases.

I'm Irish/Scottish/English...Should I start denouncing England for her atrocities against the other 2/3rds of my ancestry?

I don't have anything against the Algonquins and didn't mean any disrespect towards them. They're just acting within the laws of our country to further their own interests, not much different than what the rest of us would do.

The people "boning" us are the provincial government with their closed-door policy, the general public had no idea which land was being given away until yesterday.

Also, while this part is great

5.2 THIRD PARTY INTERESTS IN SETTLEMENT LANDS

(c) the Algonquins will negotiate agreements for hunt camps with those holding Land Use Permits for hunt camps;

It doesn't do anything at all for the people whose "hunt camp" is their house, a trailer or a tent. Although, I'm not sure I'd even want to negotiate hunting on a piece of property where

8.1.1 The Final Agreement will provide that the Beneficiaries have the right to
Harvest Fish, Wildlife, Migratory Birds and Plants for Domestic Purposes
in the Settlement Area throughout the year in accordance with the Final
Agreement.

This thread doesn't have to get locked if both sides take this as an opportunity to demonstrate their civility. I'd rather hear from other camps who may be affected.

I hunt the area in the north end of Hastings County on Baptiste lake...I like the area because it is boat access only, there are never any other hunters up there. Loosing over half of the area to the claim.

Exactly! It was crown land ALREADY which means anyone can go on it, why "Claim" it as yours, that way no one but you can go on it...

And like Mvarley84 said, what happened in the past is in the past, yeah it was rough and it was unfair but we will NEVER come to an agreement. In the meantime you have more than most of us so why complain?

What ever happened to live in the present not the past?

Sucks to hear about anyone affected. Hopefully you can find an alternative.

And I feel the same way, I have nothing against them at all its the provinvcial govenment allowing such things without any input from the public. And those who have hunt camps there were given the oppertunity to negotiate? No offence but who wants to hunt for 3 months out of the year where you are surrounded by individuals who can hunt at anytime...
