Just curious how many people out there use black sights (front and rear)?I was in the states last year for work and I happened to do some pistol training and there was quite a bit of folks using all black sights.

I was just wondering what the general thoughts towards them were...and how many people if any used them around here.

cheers

I found out I shoot much faster and better with an all black rear and dot front. With no front dot, I have issues on black targets; everything is just black and I cannot see my front sight clearly...

The only setup I like more than simply black on black is the fiber front and plain black rear. The handguns I've got which have white dots or framing on the rear sight have been blacked out. They are too confusing for fast "action shooting" style use.

The whole idea of white or other markings is to see them more easily in poor light verging on darkness. And in the case of glow in the dark tritium sights it's for use even in near full dark. But typically we are using the guns in full daylight or well lit conditions. And that's when the "clutter" of the white markings simply gets in the way of achieving a fast sight picture.

On revolvers I prefer all black sites [Patridge style] to those with a white outline rear & red ramp front.

My preference is black rear and dot front as well. All black isn't my favourite but I prefer it over 3 dot
Totally agree :)
All my action pistols have that setup. I tend to look through the rear sight at the fiber optic front rather than focus on perfect alignment. The same way the open shooters use a red-dot. The rear sight ghosts out and most of the time I'm not even aware of it. All those extra dots just distract me.

Black on black is fine for slow fire target shooting. Personally like the sights on my Shadow black rear with fibre optic front, which is very fast for target acquisition. All in all my favorite is Meprolight with trijicon inserts. Sights for what ever life throws at you........ Good or bad.

I tried black on black sights and I just cant do it...my eyes keep focusing between the rear and front sight...messes me up!

All 'black' has been traditional for bullseye shooters for over 120 years. Even in top level international competition nothing has displaced them. A lot of folks figure the past two decades of variant forms is just a temporary aberration that will pass. If you shuttle front to back, you are not concentrating on the front sight which is where your attention MUST be for precision shooting.

I've only tried black on black during one session at the range, and found it quite hard to get used to. Perhaps with time it would grow on me, but personally I prefer blacked out rear sights, and fiber/dot front.

Thanks,
Cal.

I do like the black rear with the one dot front sight set-up, but my personal preference is a two dot set-up. I have pistols configured in both ways, and I find that with the one dot front and one dot rear, it's easier for me to "square up" the sights quicker. Just get that figure eight nice and staright, and away you go...

Here's one of mine...
