Purchased this beauty off of a forum member last week and it just arrived in the mail today! It's a Portuguese contract K98 Mauser that is an H block with a matching H block bayonet to boot! Even the barrel plug matches? Another addition to my Mauser collection! :D G:

The previous owner had mentioned it had never been fired, which I was a little skeptical until I saw it first hand...it truly hasn't been fired! There is still packing grease in the barrel and chamber (couldn't take any decent pics of this...I tried). I plan on just leaving it there as I won't be shooting it. It will strictly be a collectors piece for sure.

Does anyone have any preventative maintenance tips? Light coat of oil every so often? etc etc.

Hope you guys enjoy the pics.

One matching 98 that I wish I had never sold, was my Port. These are stunning rifles with a very unique history. With the increasingly stunning losses of men and arms suffered by the German forces in 41-42 on the Eastern Front, many of these rifles were redirected to the Wehrmacht. We see evidence of this in some of the Russian Capture pieces that have surfaced, Portuguese rifles put through the normal RC rearsenaling. Once again, nice rifle! Enjoy! :)

Not to fret joe, I don't ever plan to shoot it! Definitely the gem of my milsurp collection.
I have another mostly matching K98 that has a reworked stock, that is what I use for my shooter.

Beauty!! I really like the Portuguese crest in the stock. Must have been a really fresh die. Just out of curiosity, are you going to remove the China white from the metal stampings? I feel they look better without it, how about you?

That's the way it came so I don't plan on removing it...doesn't harm it any. I imagine the last collector that owned it put it there to take pictures of the details.

Very nice and great pics.

Why do you suggest it's unfired? Cosmoline in the bore means nothing, and it has many handling marks. Still a great piece.

'41 Port K98's.

Very nice example you have there. Here's pics of a couple. I sold the darker one to a member a couple years back. No man deserves two.The light one is about perfect. Stock never even oiled. Bought from local owner who got it from importer decades ago. Both have matching bayonets. Found it in the local Buy&Sell and was just up the road. I was there in a heart-beat with the cash!

Your rifle has been fired with the proof cartridge at the factory as indicated by the firing proofs on the barrel.

It's too nice to shoot. It's a safe queen.
