All-New: Type 81M

ha:

I'll stick with my $200 Russian SKS and open sights. Clearly that M10X (Z whatever) has some growing pains to sort out.

having said that, I'm genuinely sorry that Chinese quality control is biting some guys in the a$s where these Type 81's are concerned. Always remember it's not T.I's fault, they didn't make them (most likely some political prisoner serving his life in a penal colony did), and I'm confident they will make it right. Patience is a virtue.

It sure did have some teething problems.

My M+M rifle, Gen 2, has been flawless.

That being said, my M+M barrel is not straight in the handguard - the barrel is about 1-2mm closer on the right side of the handguard.

Shoots well tho.

If I had to run out the door, and had to choose the M+M or the 81, I’d probably take the t81 tho.

ORDER MARCH 12 - RECEIVED MARCH 22 - This is my current purchase experience. Pardon the caps but I wanted to draw attention to the post. I sent an email to Ti telling them my underfolder arrived with a bent stock that closes unevenly, contacts the magazine when opening and scratches the handguard when closed. And Henrys reply was "Upon inspection of our inventory. The lower handguards all have some variants and its normal". He is probably responding to hundreds of emails so I understand the confusion. Going to be calm and patient and open a warranty claim and see where this all goes. Not sure if I'm over reacting. Started a thread on it.

Just give it a little bend to straighten it out and no more posting

Sorry but the SKS analogy doesn’t fly either, closest comparison is the SKS D and that’s still a $1200 used rifle that only shares magazines and a caliber by comparison. The M10X costs more for a rifle that works less.

For $1200 if the worst you have to complain about is bending back a wire frame stock, you’re grabbing smoke.

sure it does we are comparing the amount of factory work and probably what TI is getting these for not the look. mine works perfectly and i paid $1700. lol

lol mine is fine. let me say it again lifetime warranty.

I’d rather buy something for less money that just works and holds reliably than pay anything let alone more for something that potentially spends more time being shipped and repaired than shot, especially when it sounds like they suffer from similar build quality issues.

lets focus on the positives. I really like some of the pictures of people who have refinished their stocks. It's cool when you can make something your own :)

It isn't very hard to open the box and visually inspect the rifles, any distributer that sells something needs to check their product and not ship them out with flaws. they are processing about 200 to 300 a day lets say about 25/hour it takes lets say a minute to visually inspect the rifles. for some people it is problem having to send it back because they are bent. some children on here do not understand this, it's like going to the dealer and buying a brand new car but it has a large dent in the side. inspect the product. Most people buying these are buying for the look not to use too much imagine you buy for the look and the look is crooked, absolutely unacceptable.

Aw man that sucks. Typical Chinese quality control they just don't care. it's supposed to be straight not crooked. I hope TI is checking them and not shipping out crooked rifles like that. That sucks this issues is now present. i hope it's the only one.

Looks normal to me. It's not crooked. It's straight but the left arm has a slightly bigger gap with respect to the receiver than the left one. Perhaps to clear the safety. This guy here says in his review that the underfolder is straight as it can be: https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/2441159-All-New-Type-81M/page149.

i dont think the issue is prevalent enuff to warrant what you are asking them to do and if it was then they will handle it like they did with the dragunov stocks issue. they always made things right.

I agree; the photos I see are bent beyond "variants." (lol, I think they meat variance?).

Anyone who says it is acceptable obviously didn't spend $1400 after tax and shipping and multiple weeks waiting for one of these.

"We handle all manufacturer’s warranty issues and represent their respective implied warranties in Canada.
Defective products will be replaced, exchanged or repaired at our discretion. Warranty period is 1 year unless stated otherwise"

It's pretty clear where their "discretion" is... I'm starting to think there are some TI shills in this thread...

I actually did, I spent the $1400 on an underfolder, waiting as we sit here. I won’t be bothered, when mine comes I hope it is bent so I can post a video of me bending it back and not being so absolutely useless and reliant on people to do everything for me.

If I’m being honest, I don’t have that kind of expectation from a $1200 gun. That kind of money doesn’t buy much these days, this isn’t a car, this is purely a luxury item for my entertainment, a relatively budget friendly one by comparison, if the stamped metal stock shows up bent from shipping, I’ll bend it back.

Well this looks like a quality control issue. the folder is supposed to be straight centered not to one side or the other. it looks like some might have slipped through. where it is crooked. what you are looking at could be due to the passthrough holes in the receiver that don't line up exactly and the stock itself is straight but understanding angles closer to the folding mechanism could only be off 0.5mm but but at the end of the stock that ends up to be 5 mm and not centered, anyway this is unacceptable.

Have you read his review: https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/2441159-All-New-Type-81M/page149? Everything works properly. No scratches, no nothing. And he says it's straight. I'll get mine on Monday, March 25, so, we will see. I'll do a thorough assessment.

i can guarantee you yo will not be bending anything back. the issue is not that something is bent and if you think that you don't understand metallurgy, it is not made of lead it is steel with strategic bends in it for strength. not what you are thinking the issue is. in my opinion is where the holes in the receiver don't line up therefor after installing the stock through both holes it cants the stock to the one side or the other.

thats the right attitude.... now, can you publicly state when you received yours and its straight, you are willing to trade with some who has a bent? so we can have two satisfied customers.

TI has always made it right with me in the past. Fingers crossed it's not bent but that's only been reported once in this thread and I haven't seen what TI's solution is. The Type 81 is a proven military design and often doesn't have critical issues even after thousands of rounds.

I don't mind the wait, gives all the accessories time to come in :d got a bunch of p-mags in this week, a couple metal mags of various origins, and a pack of bulgarian mags coming in on the next import. Stock up on them while you can and theyre in stock.

Anyone else pre order the mlok rail? I plan on using it on my underfolder, the only annoying part is having to unscrew the upper handguard to clean. Maybe theres a way to mod it so its toolless?
