All-New: Type 81M

Not a big deal but while stripping my new fixed down I noticed a good amount of rust forming underneath the front handguard on the barrel. Specifically where the front pin/screw on the wooden guard makes contact with the barrel.

The rust cleaned up off the barrel with a bit of elbow grease, no permanent marking or pitting. Might be worth a quick look on any of yours.

I know its a very minor issue and most folks wouldn't care but I'm guessing a few might.

It was nice that the inside of the hand guards wasn’t finished so it was easier to re-finish the hand guards but that’s pretty poor to leave the wood like that from the factory.

Yeah you can see it when the rifle is assembled through the cooling holes, they have no finish on there either. Really wouldn't have taken that much longer, SR are the same. Probably SE too if someone wants to check. Hate to see it.

Also while I'm here, the phosphate finish really does scratch very easy. You'll be halfway to "battleworn" in no time if that's your fancy or not. I thought these would be blued like the LMG or SR and I much prefer that.

I'm going to say at this point based on shootability and build quality the later production LMG are the best of the T81.

I may or may not refinish the wood. Depends how good or bad the M-lok handguard is, guess we'll know in 3 or so weeks.

Got my Fixed 2820x order April 5 in South BC, ordered on March 14.
Barrel/receiver is dead straight, butt stock is slightly to the right. Was clean, and shot great using red box. Couple dings on furniture, nothing to complain about.
Really happy with my 1st purchase from TI and such a cool rifle for the collection!

You'd never find this poor workmanship on a $200 SKS...you guys got hosed.

Figured out how to post images!
Anyways, please tell me what you guys think. Should I be contacting TI?

I'm certainly not happy with the obvious bend along the receiver, it's very noticeable when shouldering the rifle. The bolt carrier cycles and the rifle seemingly functions without issue (although, I have yet to actually shoot it).
Just reposting because I didn't get much traction and hoping for some more insight/advice.
What would you do in my situation?

Head to the banana range and send it!

$200 SKS? What’s that? In all seriousness though, the T81 is way overpriced for what it is. But the Canadian market has been so saturated by junk semi autos that we take whatever we can get. At least the T81 run reliably even if lots are bent.

Yours is not bad compared to some guys on here. We’ve all seen videos of AKs getting run over by trucks and still working fine. If it bugs you, nothing stopping you from contacting TI to discuss it.

Personally I would see how it runs first. If you want to get rid of it, PM me.

What's poor is that you can't fathom that someone might already have a (several) sks and $1500 to spare for TI's magical Chinese mystery rifle ride where YOU are the QA and concentricity is maybe.

Return it for sure.

You sure you’re not thinking 276xx? I earliest I saw 284xx and up getting tracking numbers was the past 48 hours, it sounds like you’re right on schedule.

There are guys that posted after us that in the 285XX saying they got it, and there's this guy with 286XX reporting saying he got it:

Granted, I ordered a bunch of accessories, so I guess that delays the order a bit more, still, I'm trying not to be a brat about it, its just been a while now and we all wish we had the stuff we purchase before getting the credit card statement.

Thats nothing compared to how many of the LMGs came lol

Just got mine today, sure enough barrel is bending towards the right. Gonna call TI tomorrow.
Kind of sucks to wait weeks finally get it and then need it replaced. Fixed stock too, I was hoping they were safe from the bent barrel issue.

Also upper handguard was really ####ing hard to take off. And the gas adjustment is stiff like crazy.

Id expect an exchange or refund myself.

Took my UF out today, performs just as expected. Accuracy is 3-4 MOA with Chinese lacquered surplus, 100% reliable, slant comp works great and really helps to stay on target. Paracord-wrapped stock works just fine, not really understanding the cheekweld drama. Trigger is surprisingly nicer than on my SE fixed.
