And just to avoid that kind of regretful situation. I have jumped on every Garand i've been able to afford at that given moment. I have done very well except for once. I had a giant turd of a rifle show up and i had to part it out to make my money back. The last one i got was from CANAM and i was more than happy when i took it apart. Lots of original parts or at least correct for the serial range. Not a spec of rust on the whole thing. The bad thing about SAs is they are easy to fake an original, mostly because of the huge pool of parts out there. I bought an IHC last year that was all correct except for 3 parts in the trigger group. Now thats a rifle that is difficult to fake as original. I wouldn't say that ALL the rifles up for sale lately are just the crappy ones, cuz i've bought alot of them from CGN. 9 rifles and 1 bad one out of all of them.

Ohhhh.... they're out there, but most of them are in the States. A good number of GI's came home with a rifle or two in thier duffel bags. But up here, they are few and far between. I saw one at the Orangeville show a few years back for $450, and I was deep into Enfields at the time, so I passed on her. But you could tell by the finish and the fact the barrel was correct, that she had never been "touched" so to speak..... Still kicking my ass over that one!!!

Just because a GI supposidly brought it home from the war with him doesn't mean anything, if an armourer ever inspected the rifle chances are parts got changed, also ammo at that time was corrosive and I am sure that many battles did not allow for meticulous cleaning. It is a nice thought to think that you have the all original 1943 SA Garand that shot Hitler but I really doubt it.

When I said there our there, I was stating a fact. Just check out Scott A. Duff's collection, and he isn't the only one with all correct Garands. But then again, he's probably been collecting since before some of our so call experts here were even born..... ( I purchased my first M1 carbine in 1969, and it was all original WWII one, made by GM)

I know that Hitler killed himself and had his body burned and if I remember correctly the Soviets were in Berlin first. That was a dig at the gun sellers who try to pawn every WWII firearm off as a rare, all original, vetern bring back that killed somebody famous. I don't have any Scott Duff's books but I have many others and have read some of Hatcher's book of the Garand. I thought that Duff's books looked a bit second rate compared to Bruce N. Canfield's, which I have a few of. If anybody has all correct US Military weapons of all kinds it would be Canfield.
