The Minister of Forests,Lands, and Natural Resources (Steve Thomson, FLNRO) in BC has just handed over an unprecedented amount of keystone hunts to the GOABC (Guide Outfitters Association of BC)

Despite the fact that they number less than 0.3% of resident voters, they got up to FORTY PERCENT of Sheep and Grizz , 35% of Mountain Goats, and up to 25% of Moose, Elk, and other species. All comparable jurisdictions cap that number at 10%, but the GOABC contributes heavily to the ruling BC Liberal party, so they get what they want.
Please sign this petition,as we must, as Resident Hunters, make a stand against selling off our wild game to well-heeled foreign interests.
Even if you're not in BC, if we don't fight this, commercial interests will get greedy in YOUR province also, so please sign!

Direct action works best bug them every day flud ther phone lines
Expose them on all the net
Make them sorry thay exepted ther dirty wildlife money

Petition signed, also sending a letter. One move that should be considered to counter this action is petitioning government to ban for profit hunting in BC. If we do not act now we will end up like many foreign jurisdictions, where rich foreigners take 90% of all hunting permits

They want most of our game why care about outfitters wallet. If my my freezer is empty because of them lets make their wallets empty

Good luck with the fight. You (BC Resident hunters) really need to remind your MLA's that not one single NR hunter can cast a vote in the next provincial election unlike the tens of thousands of Resident hunters she just sold down the river for a few pennies who can and will.

All those who say that the online petitions are useless are wrong. The petition, which now stands at 6300 or so, has been sent to several MLAs in BC with a request to print out.
The petition now stands at 112 pages of names, cities, and comments, and when printed out in a minimum of 500 per MLA, they have a legal duty to take that to the legislature in Victoria. Please share and tell all your friends to sign.
We had a major breakthrough today, largely in part because of this, when Bill Bennet (Mines and resources) admitted that they have to have another look at the Allocations, and the deal is BACK on the table.
Don't listen to the doubters, they have no idea what they're saying. You print 112 pages of voters out in a book, call the media, present copies to your MLAs, and you think that has no influence? Give your heads a shake, please, Gentlemen.
We have a beachhead established.Time to move inland.

THIS online petition records name, address, and email address. Which does make it a relevant petition and government will notice if the number of signatures is noteworthy. Petition by itself is not enough - need to follow up with letters to your elected member of provincial legistaure.

Gawd; don't you hate it when the Gov't gets caught getting greasy?
One has to wonder 'What it cost ( it's usually not cash from what I can tell...week in Hawaii to attend that meeting? Sure! Bring the wife and kids; don't worry about a hotel, here's the keys to a nice condo and a good rental car too. On us of course) to help get that little bit of business done.

Same damn thing here with the caribou, the herd is way ,way down but the outfitters always will have tags ....I guess the govt see's the sale of tags as a money maker all around ,where as if I get one its just a tank or two of gas that I would eventually but anyways and a weeks worth of groceries that would also buy regardless.

It makes it real hard though when your in an outfitting area and see the big carcass of a presumably fine stag with no antlers ,the likes of that really needs to be jumped down a bog hole for the archaeologists to ponder a couple hundred years from now

Best of luck getting this undone. Tourism means money and the government likes that.

Has this gotten any media attention?

Five unidentified men at a Guide Outfitters Association of B.C. convention doing their version of the "Jackson Five, all grown up"—with bananas.

Recent changes in the allocation of B.C. hunting permits has two provincial organizations feuding publicly.

The B.C. Wildlife Federation. which advocates for hunters and fishers, has started a petition to try to convince the B.C. Liberals to reverse a decision that sees a higher percentage of licences for so-called limited-entry hunts (for some of the larger and less numerous game animals, such as moose, grizzly bears, and mountain goats) going to the Guide Outfitters Association of B.C.

The GOABC, which represents about 210 outfitters, sells many of its permits to nonresidents who want to purchase guided hunts for big game. The BCWF, which claims 45,000 members, says a larger percentage of limited permits will now be shifting from resident hunters to commercial interests catering to foreigners, even though the number of domestic hunters has increased significantly in the past decade, up to more than 100,000 today. It says foreign trophy hunters during the same period declined about 30 percent, to only 4,500.

In the heat of this war of words came a notification, via Twitter, to the Straight of an interesting photo posted on the GOABC Facebook account. Purportedly taken at GOABC's annual convention in Kelowna, on April 29, 2013, it shows what appears to be five white males wearing black Afro-style fright wigs and is titled "The Jackson Five, all grown up".

For some unexplained reason, all the men are holding bananas.

According to posted photos, other "fun" impersonations involved people dressing as the rock band Kiss, ZZ Top, Tina Turner, and one of the Supremes, with GOABC executive director Scott Ellis dressing up as Prince.

This is the truth exactly, I recently moved to northern bc. It is a great province and for a hunter, really a dream. BUT, i applied for several draws last season and didnt get any. We need to get vocal with our MLA's it is obvious this is nothing more than a money grab, like almost everything in this province. Dont get me wrong, i really like it here but the government "pretzel" logic is mind boggling. Obviously if residents are not getting drawn then this is not a game management issue, simply another money grab. I guess the genius doesnt realize how much money residents spend on hunting. They just see what an outfitter charges and decides that is what we want. "GET LOUD PEOPLE"
