All These Abbreviations!

So ... I am new and this might be old hat to some, but I don't get all the abbreviations yet.

FMJ= Full Metal Jacket.

Ok ... that is where my knowledge ends.

What is FMJFB. FMJHB, JHP and STHP.

Google, and just some basic knowledge of bullets............

soft point, boat tail,etc.................BTHP(boat tail hollow point)

After a while and some reading it will make sense.

FMJFB - Full Metal Jacket, Flat Base

FMJHB - Full Metal Jacket, Hollow Base

JHP - Jacketed Hollow Point

STHP - Soft Tip Hollow Point

Some more for ya:

WC = wad cutter
HBWC = hollow based wad cutter
TMJ = total metal jacket
TC = truncated cone
HC = Hard Cast(lead)

yes. A FMJ will have exposed lead at the base of the bullet.
A TMJ is totally enclosed in the jacket including the base.

People will look for TMJ bullets to reduce lead exposure for indoor shooting.

Difference between TMJ and FMJ is in manufacturing process.
TMJ bullet is a cast lead bullet with a thin copper plating all around. It's not actually a "jacket"
FMJ's are made by first drawing the jacket, and then pressing lead core into it. FMJ bullet can have exposed lead at either base OR tip (depending from which side the core was pressed in). Some FMJ bullets have the opening capped off, and therefore don't have any exposed lead.
Main reason for using TMJ's over FMJ is cost.

"...OR tip..." That'd be a Soft Point.
"...STHP - Soft Tip Hollow Point..." Nope. Silvertip Hollow Point.
A 'net search for 'bullet abbreviations' turns up 1.33 million sites on Google. None of which are complete either. The manufacturers will have a different name for the same thing too. Be easier for you to just ask here.
