Spotted this sign on our BC trip, obviously aimed at us older folks. :redface:

A needle falls from an evergreen tree deep in the forest.
The eagle sees it fall.
The deer hears it fall.
The bear smells it fall.
If you can hear a bear, you are "at a disadvantage" in your encounter. Best of luck.
 
Now THAT is marketing!

The profile of the Grizzly's back above the top horizontal of the sign captures your eye instinctively. You cannot not notice it.

I can't say for grizzlies, but for black bears the sow will often be very vocal with the cubs, and it is possible to hear the sow's vocalizations before you see her and the cubs....if you are lucky, can hear well, and its not a windy day.
