This was a French invention patented there in 1858 by Francois Eugene Schneider. In 1861 he obtained the English patent rights to the design and the cartridge and these were purchased by the London gunmaker, George H. Daw. Pushing down and forward on the lever over the trigger bow withdraws the cylindrical spring-loaded bolt seen protruding from the standing breech face and the barrels fall open. That bolt has an angled upper surface so the gun snaps closed with no need to touch the lever. The fore-end of the gun is permanently attached.
At this time I don't think I have any unusual or unique actions to contribute ( well maybe one or two) but if deemed appropriate for this thread I can add pictures with explanations and history of some different maker's house styles and features.
This sliding top lock isn't particularly sleek but it's rock solid. It has been used by many European makers including, Kreighoff, Sauer and by Remington on their Model 32 and 3200.
