Allright you shotgun gurus, what do I want?

Nope I love my mossberg great brand I have 2 mossberg firearms and no problems what so ever for 2 years so far (bought them brand new)

mossberg 500 on my bag while Im hunting bear with my compound bow (mines a special purpose, so it certinaly doesnt look like a sporting firearm)
and 12 gage ithica for deer on the farm.

I only ever shoot with friends in the bush (clay pidgons) I just bring both for fun. BUT if I were to go to a range and actually try skeet I would just bring my ithica cause I would perfer to keep the sport tradational, also if or when I go to the skeet range and I like it that gives me another reason to purchase a new shot gun:D

In all honesty if you just want a shotgun for fun and to shoot claypidgons with a buddys and not get very serious in to the sport a mossberg 500 (field version) or the remington 870 will work just fine and if you decide to get serious you can take it to a smith get a choke installed or buy a new barrel :D good luck!

I would get a used Remington 870 Wingmaster. There are lots of them kicking around and they can be had for reasonable prices. I think you will find that these are much more refined than a new Express.

If it has a fixed full choke, have a gunsmith open it up to modified. This is a better all-around choice that will work well for what you want to do with it. Should want to hunt waterfowl some day, the gun will be good to go with steel shot with the modified choke.

One of the great things about the 870 is that it is pretty much the "Lego" of shotguns. You can easily swap out barrels, add magazine extensions, etc. to configure it however you want.

+1 Mossberg, man they've got a ton of different configurations and combos in the 500's ,590's and have a look at their 930 Autoloader, man that thing rocks,But you will tend to burn through ammo faster.:D

I just picked up a second 590,like them so much, Of my 4 scatterguns ,3 are Mossbergs ,got my first one in 92 [2x 590s,and a 930] ,the other is a well used Ithaca 37. Which whould also be a good choice. If you can find one.

Good call Greenhorse six I love my mossberg 500 I really want another scatter gun..aiming for a stage coach of anytype perf 12 gage sinlge triggler, internal hammers but Ill take what I can get that looks nice, works and is under 400 bucks (I like the looks of the stoegers coach's). 930 id love to get my hands on one of those one day!! Even a nice 18'' winchester sx 3 with an 18'' barrel (iv seen some nice configurations!) Or a nice benelli m4 or even a stoeger model 2000 (defense) I just love the semi auto 18'' pistol grips with a retractable stock! Gotta love a good scatter gun!

I use a stoeger p350 for everyone regarding shotgunning and with a mc I hit 4 out of 5 clays everytime, the gun came with 5 chokes incase you want to hunt later on and its full camo for under 500

To many problems with them. They won't stand up to a lot of Clay shooting. There is no such thing as a cheap O/U. You would be better of with a used 390 or 391 Beretta with a 28" barrel.

Do you think the same of their Uplander side by side models?

I'm thinking of getting a side by side because ..., well, because I'm an old geezer and I just like some things old style. I will want to do some casual clay shooting and maybe hunt birds with it. I don't expect to put 10k rounds through it and if I did, and it wore out, I don't think I would mind because by then I'd be realising I was going to get serious about shooting clays and would want to budget for a serious replacement.

TheTooner I have never got to play with a stoeger but I’m in IN LOVE with their sxs stage coaches, There uplanders look stunning. I would love to be able to say they are the king of shotguns but I hear a lot of bad things about their condor unfortunately but that’s still not stopping me from pursuing stoeger firearms, you always hear a lot more negative criticism before you hear the positive. Stoeger is owned by Benelli and there known to have some of the best shotguns in the world soo by saying that I would by a Stoeger in a heartbeat if I had the chance. I really really want to find a stage coach but I haven’t found a stoeger stagecoach in my area so I will have to settle down with the closest I can find to a stoeger. (Plus I havnt herd any bad things about anything else but the condor hah which is werid wish I could handle one just to see/understand about why people complain about them) Im a huge stoeger fan though but I guess I cant be one until I own a stoeger firearm!:D

Yes, Stoeger is an importer/distributor. As far as I can tell, they don't actually build guns. The Uplander series are made for them in Brazil by E.R. Amantino (Boito) and are also sold under the manufacturers own name as A680 and A681 models. They used to be called IGA Gaucha in the N.American market before Stoeger decided to put their own name on them. I handled a slightly used Uplander and thought it well made for the price, and I liked that it was quite plainly finished.

And Stoeger's Condor o/u models are also made there and can be found as the Amantino/Boito Miura models.

Just go to any gun store that sells both Stoeger and Benelli. Grab a pump from each and a semi of each. Feel them, cycle them, dry fire them. You WILL see a big difference in quality, finish, and tightness while cycling.

Since you are near Calgary, drop by TSE and take a look at the Fabarm line www.fabarm.com . You will get the quality of the Beretta/Benelli lines without paying for the brand name. I will have their Elos guns in next week, and they are the new entry level O/U.
