Almost ready to buy a MDT HS3 or a LSS stock, feedback would be great.

I really want DBM and looks like MDT have a great product for the price.

So any of you have a MDT struck or is Boyds style better?

This is for my truck gun a .223 Savage Hog Hunter.

Thanks

I have my .308 hog hunter in a hs3. It feeds nice from the mags. I chose it also so I could use dbm and to get rid of the Tupperware stock. I can say it did made the gun shoot much better.
BUT,
Don't expect to be able to properly use the irons with the mdt stock though. The cheek weld is just too high to make it work. I've thought about a Boyd's stock and set it up as a bit more of a scout style set up. So as I truck gun I'd grab a Boyd's.

I've only dabbled once with a chassis, an MDT LSS on a Rem700. I used it for a season of coyote shooting. IMHO it just isn't a practical hunting rig; too heavy, certainly less convenient for sliding into some storage crevice in a truck. The chassis was okay for bench shooting, but for any real-world field position I never found it as comfortable as a traditional stock. DBM is common today, so that feature alone isn't really a selling point for the chassis.

The only possible advantage of a vertical pistolgrip for hunting is in situations where you might be down "on the gun", ready to shoot, for an extended period; in that case, the vertical grip eases tension on your wrist and is quite nice. Examples would be hunting turkey or coyotes. For me, however, the cons outweighed the pros; the look-cool factor fades away quickly when faced with actual use.

Thanks guys, really stuck trying to decide what I can do to convert to DBM. I have a factory Savage DBM and mag already, wonder if a I can use an Accustock or Model 11 factory stock with a mag cut out?

Thoughts?

Keep in mind that Savage has at least two different detachable mag systems. I have a Savage Scout which incorporates a magazine release into the front of the magazine well, but the Savage Lightweight Hunter I had recently used a set-up where each mag had its own integral release at the front of the mag box...nothing on the gun. I was told that they were Axis magazines but don't know for sure. In any case, the magazines were not interchangeable between the two systems.

I also can't say whether the two different "bottom metal" units (which were both entirely plastic...) could be interchanged between the guns; just didn't think to check when I had the two of them together. Savage doesn't seem to hesitate when it comes to making changes that really complicate plans to swap stocks on their guns. They move the bolt release around, change the mag release, change the way the mags feed (centerfeed vs staggered), change the spacing of the receiver mounting screws and who-knows-what else...so all I can suggest is double- and triple-check every possible variable before ordering something. Boyd's is really good about this; they know all the ins and outs and can tell you exactly what you need and what you can or cannot do. Personally, that's the route I would take.

Doesn't look like mine...definitely not the same as the Lightweight Hunter I sold recently.

I lost track of how many magazines I tried and discarded while trying to find a spare to fit my 7.62x39 Scout; finally ended up having to modify a .223 magazine. If I were looking to replace the stock on a Savage, I would definitely stick with a supplier who is familiar with all their ins and outs and various idiosyncrasies and variations (i.e. Boyds).
