Alright fellas, it's recommendation time! (re: 1911)

I've decided to buy a 1911 as my next pistol, but there are so many brands and models that I'll leave it up to the wise and all-knowing CGN to point me in the right direction!

My only two requirements are a 4/4.15in barrel and 9mm caliber: everything else is up to you! So, what say you...?

Don't buy a 1911 unless it's a .45. Everyone I know have had their fun with their 9mm/.40 magazines.

It all depends how much $$ you want to spend. From $399 Norinco that may need to be smoothed to 3K plus Wilsons and Nighthawks.

STI Trojan would be a nice start I would get in on .45 also don't forget about Colt. Arms East has nice selection of Colt goodies and Walter is awesome to deal.

In keeping with your requirement that your 1911 come in 9mm the STI would seem to be the logical choice.

For me, this would narrow the field down to STI (like many others have already suggested)....

Now, if you're willing to look at a .45 ACP, I'd say a Dan Wesson because, IMHO, they are one of the best values out there currently for a 1911.

Commander-length 1911s, and especially those chambered in 9mm, tend to be somewhat finicky. That is not to say that they can't be made reliable, but out of the box, they would often have feeding issues. Magazines can also be a problem. So keep in mind that you're buying a gun that would likely require some work to make it feed reliably.
