how do companys like Hornady change the color of their shells??? they have black, even chrome looking ones. I tried searching for brass in that color and cant find any (wanted to reload some). Same goes with bullets, I only seem to find FMJs' and lead casts. Im sure the answer must be simple but hey, I am a newb to this....any ideas?
 
Black cases are lacquered steel, not brass. The chrome coloured cases are nickle plated for added corrosion resistance.
 
Not all the black coloured cases are steel. I have also seen brass that was given some sort of treatment to turn it black, the same sort of thing as bluing on steel.
