Alternative SKS front sight options?

Just wondering what alternative front sight options their are for the SKS.

To start I would like to keep everything reversible, so no permanent modifications to the rifle or its original components.

I would like to remove the standard sleeve for the front sight base and bayonet mount, to make a cleaner look. I would like to mount some sort of front sight further back near the gas block. This combined with a TS-200 rear sight would make one nice looking rifle.

Main question is, does anyone make a clamp on front sight that would clamp onto the barrel? Or what about a replacement gas block with integrated front sight?

Third alternative would be to basically acquire different standard gas block and sight base and weld them together. would be simple enough, although a little more intrusive. Which leads to another question, who sells a front sight base and a gas block?

Anyone have any I Idea's? Since this is an SKS I don't want to start getting all spend here.

Thanks.

I would just change the front sight post, it just screws right out.

Three options I have seen are Williams firesight fibre optic front sight, Tech Sights fine target post and multi-coloured Tapco front sight posts.

High calibre services had the Tech Sights & Tapco sights and Rusty Wood had the Williams sight, both in BC and sponsors here.

I've wondered about those coloured replacement posts, but I think the orange, red or yellow ones would be harder to see. Especially on bright sunny days. I prefer the factory black.

Peep rear and a cross hair front.

For shooting off the bench, I use the cross hair. For fast off-hand shooting, I just center the target in the front sight ring.

As far as a band to move the front sight back down the barrel. Ive never seen anything like that.

For improving the sight function they can be adjusted , cleaned up and for darker shooting some people put a bit of glow in the dark nailpolish on the front site , But i have a feeling that isnt what your trying to do.

So i will just say in all my time spend looking for sight alternatives i haven't seen anything exactly what your looking for.

Thanks for all the input, but might of not bee clear in my original post.

I am not looking for a new post, but a completely new front sight base. I want to remove the stock base, and add one further back, near the gas block.

This is what I mean.

NOTE: The following pictures are for location reference only.

This is a Standard SKS front sight post, notice how it is located on the muzzle of the barrel? I want to remove the front sight and bayo lugs completely.

Like mentioned in my first post, A clamp on sight base that clamps onto the barrel, or a replacement gas block with integral sight base are what I am looking for. So does anyone know of one?

Thanks Again.

pc9 let me know if that site ends up fitting in your sks, I'm looking for a alternative to put in my other sks aside from the williams thats in there. I found a NEA one for it off of the ammo source but there out of them and i can't seem to find any where that stocks them. i like the look of those ak ones

Sure will do.
I expect it any day now.

Doesn't exist as far as I'm aware.

Why in God's name would you want to decrease your sight radius by bringing the post further back? All it would do is increase the likelihood of angle errors and decrease the quality of sight picture.

I plan on using a TS200 rear sight as well. This set up will have a shorter radius then a TS200 and stock sight, but slight longer then all stock. Also because The image I have in my head is cool looking.

They don't seem to have a website but Prince50 makes what you're looking for. Google prince50 SKS front sight and you'll find it for sale around the US. Hopefully someone can export it. BTW the barrel stub of the SKS is 14.00mm. It is the correct o.d. for threading M14X1.0RH (VZ) and M14x1.0LH (AK) without needing to be turned down. An FAL/C1/L1A1 etc FH is threaded M14X1.0RH and will cover some of the smaller dia. barrel exposed once the FSB/bayo lug is gone. If you cut it to 18.5 it may even reach the FSB shoulder.
