I just broke my second rear Butler Creek lens cap, friggin dry firing in the basement.

Part of my problem is that I set the rear cap at 45 degrees so I can still read the adjustment markings on the target turrets of my scope. This seems to lead to me rubbing against and breaking the cap when it is open.

However, I just can't see throwing another $25.00 for plastic parts that are obviously prone to break through my use.

Are there alternative, higher quality flip up rear caps that I can use?

What kind of scope? If it's a Leupold, you can get the Alumina Flip caps that thread into the eyepiece and they'll fold flat against the ocular housing when open.

I like Butler Creek caps, but I don't use the rear ones as I find it's the objective lens that gets snow/rain/dirt in it while hunting.

^ Agree. Except that I use the Blizzard cap on the objective, which minimizes the amount of times I actually have to flip it open to gain that last 2% of light and clarity. Mine last a long time because they rarely get flipped open.

Hah! Better than turning every scope into pitch dark, like the regular BC caps :D

I need to take some pics, next time I'm at the range, of some of my scopes with and without the Blizzard cap on. There really isn't that much of a difference, optically.

Luckily, the option is still there to flip the Blizzard cap open and get the full optical capability of the scope, if it so happens that 97% isn't good enough for the situation at hand...

I've got a set bought when I was a kid......so they are old.
Rubber end caps attached by rubber.
Hook your thumb on the rear and they flip out of the way.
Why they quit making them is way beyond my comprehension.
Great set and wished I could still buy them.
