I acquired a replica scope mount for my SVT-40. The gun had the milled rails, but NOT the notch across the receiver. I don't want to alter this gun by milling a notch. I don't mind altering the modern replica mount. My idea was to drill/tap a small hole in the mount, & use a small set screw to lock the mount to the receiver. This would at worst put a small mark on the receiver from the tip of the set screw. Any other idea's that would work without altering the gun?

How snugly does the mount fit the rails?
Loose/freely moving or pretty snug?

I saw a custom made mount with allen key set screws in the normal pin location that would tighten in against the receiver to clamp the mount still. No idea how well it worked.

Still, I also owned one of the Frontier mounts with the three massive cross bolts, tightened them right down till they squeaked, and it still walked forward; by 15 rounds, it was far enough ahead to interfere with the movement of the bolt carrier.

Not easy keeping those mounts still.
