I am just in the end of a restore to a cooey model 60, and I suck at blueing...bad.

I don't want to spend 150 plus on blueing at a smith, so what options if any do I have for a nice easy finish?

I have been looking around and I think I will ARMA-Coat it?

I don't have access to a sandblaster, can I simply scuff the barrel with emery cloth and steel wool?

If you would like to replicate blueing we have a high gloss black which will do the trick, from just scuffing with with emery cloth or steel wool won't do it, it needs a porous surface to bond to. Princess Auto has cheap sandblasters that you may or may not be interested in.

Would Parkerizing interest you? Several articles can be found on the net.
I haven't tried yet, but I want to.

Parkerizing would interest me.

And if I were to get it bead blasted, how long could it lay around till I used your product?

Would it be indefinate, or would it need to be done right before I coated it?

There is another ancient method of blueing: cover a part in mineral oil and heat up in the furnance, but away from open flames. When is stops smoking, take it out. Takes a few minutes and provides black surface. Might want to train on a bunch of old nails first.

You could leave your reciever in the white for a bit but be extremely careful where you leave it because rust can pop up overnight, so leave it in a very dry place, I left receiver s lying around in the white for a few months and never had any rust. We also sell zinc phosphate(grey) and manganese phosphate(black) park solution, if you are also interested. Its not up on the site yet until we finish the overhaul so please call us if you are interested on pricing.
