Aluminum AR180B lower. *Update DONE!*

I think I've settle on calling it the VA R1, for Volk Armory Rifle number 1. Should I give it a name, not just a number designation?

Serial number will be FUWENDY-001.

I can appreciate the sentiment, but I don't think I'd want to have anything even remotely associated with that sow! Not even her name!

The VAR-1 sounds promising! Definitely looking pretty good now!

You are my hero, Armed.

This actually gives viable alternative to other Non-Rest 5.56 rifles. If only you can make it available to us...

By the way, do you have to submit it to NWEST/RCMP for final rubber-stamping of the design?

My biggest concern is if you use too much of an AR15 LPK, they might class it as an AR variant despite a different buffering system. In the end, the modified mag catch might be a blessing in that regard ;)

If you have to, you might also want to send it in before you bother anodizing it, etc. after all, if it gets sh!tcanned, you'll save the expense of applying the finish. Also a good idea to submit the plastic receiver with it so that you can prove it's just an aluminum version of the plastic lower which is already approved. Might smooth things a little. :)

Well damn close. :D
I just need to fit the grip, which I don't have. A few cosmetic touches like rounding some corners and what not. Also, the hole for the trigger needs some opening up, nothing serious. Mainly, I just need an AR15 lower parts kit.

I'm still debating whether or now I should keep the trigger guard as is, or modify it to use the Magpul Enhanced Trigger Guard.

Do you figure that you have increased the weight of the lower by much? I'm interested to see. I have very similar gadgets on mine and as you know it is front heavy. I'm wondering if you new lower will balance it out?

By the way - very well done. Just a bit more effort and you'll have a complete lower.

I didn't spend all this time and money before checking the legalities.

How much AR15 parts it uses is irrelevant. If it can not fire and AR15 upper, it is not an AR15 variant. FULLSTOP.

It will not get #### can't, it doesn't need an RCMP stamp of approval. As it is a one off firearm, it just has to be legal.

Congratulations Armedsask. You have shown what a guy willing to learn, ask questions and commit to a project can accomplish. Looking forward to seeing it finished and hearing a range report.

P.S it is impressive how patient you are with some comments.

It's even more impressive if you met me in real life and see how much of a prick
I am. :D

I was doing some filing and sanding on the piece today and the head instructor had to have a look at the finished product. He was rather impressed with my dedication to finishing the project and told me I just just use the reciever as a resume.

So are we going to see that nice new lower come out to some service rilfe shoots sometime? Bring it out to the BCRA provincals for a demo.

coolest resume i've ever seen. impressive not only in the craftmanship but also the level of research that you had to do, legal and otherwise.

The craftsmanship is a little lacking. Due to time issue at school I often ran out of time. Not wanted to have to set back up to finish some cuts, I would often rush things, leading to minor cosmetic screw ups and poor finish. If I would have had a dedicated mill and would be able to leave it setup, it would have looked a hell of alot nicer.

I bought a big tub of metal filler today to fix some of the dings. :D

Looks very nice. Wish I had access to equipment like that so I could build my own stuff.

A question on registering your lower, does it have to have a serial no. engraved or can you just go with the cheesy sticker I've heard about.
