Always liked these... Steyr AUG

I wonder if they fixed the trigger on the new versions? i remember reading about them and the horrible trigger.

That being said, if I could, I would buy one in a second.
 
Only ever seen one in Canada and actually had the opportunity to handle/shoot it and it is a very nice rifle indeed.
 
I shot one of the early modles with the fixed optic, didn't care for the scope, ergonomics took some getting used to, quite accurate and reliable. My pal and I used to tromp around the woods, he had the AUG, I had my HK91, man I miss the pre-retarded laws era

I have one, and am fortunate enough to be able to shoot it. Do I like it...yes, very much.. is it my favorite rifle for combat..No I would prefer a C7-C8 platform. Does the AUG have good points..you bet it does..fixed combat sight, as rugged as it gets..or, a flat top with a scope, your call, interchangable barrels, from 24 in to CQB in seconds...are they accurate..very much so..but like anything, it prefers some ammo over others. Trigger, not a problem..its not match grade, but when you can mount and hold a weapon as solid as you can the AUG..the trigger becomes less of an issue. I was fortunate to be a member of 5 Bisley teams ..while there, one of the great things is to see what everyone else is using. While still shooting the C1, and they were the best the army could field, we would watch with amusment the Omani's and United Arab Emerites shooting the SLR. They were nice to see, were a colorful addition to the ranges, but They were no competition for a hardened, trained rifle team from Canada. Well, then one year they showed up with Styer AUGs. The first mod they did was remove the 1.5 power doughnut sight, and added the brit Susat. We, nor the Brits and Ausies did recover that year from the beating we took from these new guns. My next trip over was the first time C-7's were taken to Bisley. Using iron sights, we did ok, but didnt get a level playing field until we also got optics . The point is, they shoot really well, need a good training program to learn smooth mag changes and stuff..but it will shoot. Is it perfect..no, but it has a lot of almost perfect
attributes.
 
I don't like the gas regulator and the exposed barrel directly over the vertical grip. I much prefer the traditional layout like TAVOR or SA80

(1) Left-side bolts (with mirrored positions of extractor and ejector) are available for those who need left-side ejection. Changing from right- or left-hand ejection is done by swapping out the bolt and the ejection port lids.

(2) With your hand on the vertical grip, your flesh is only 1" away from the gas regulator exhaust port and 4" away from the rear vent of the flash hider/muzzlebrake.

So I've been told...;)

"Traditional Layout" yer kidding right..one has almost 90 mods to make it serviceable, and will probably soon be replaced , the other is the new kid on the block..
what dont you like "exactly"
Is it personnal preferance, thru experiance..rounds fired ..do tell.
I'm interested in your perspective.
