In the past 2 days I have found 2 brand new rifles in my vault that I have no recollection of purchasing, nor did I even know I owned them. An absolutely mint Miroku/Winchester 92 in 44-40 and a CZ 550 FS in 6.5X55, again mint without a mark on it. I know for a fact I haven't fired either rifle, and I just don't know where they came from. They were obviously purchased during one of my buying frenzies, when I had long boxes coming in the mail every day or two for a couple weeks. But damn, I cannot, for the life of me remember buying them, nor from whom, nor if they were new or from the EE..........
I think I better go root a bit more and see what else I have, it's almost like Christmas !!!!!!!!

Not dementia. You borrowed them from me!!! I will send you my address again, as you seem to have a memory issue. Mail them back.:bsFlag:

I had ammo in several places. Dug it all out, found that i am well stocked with loads for some rifles that i thought i was going to need to load up. Your right it is like Christmas. My issue like this is finding optics, and not remembering what they were on, how long i have had them, when they came. My leper, orphan scopes.

nowarningshot is full of BS...I have the damned scopes in my safe because you borrowed them from me. Why you borrowed them I have no recollection, maybe it was part of the big handloading frenzy, but I really miss that Swede.

Numero 2 et 3 izz full of bullzs mahnewarrrr.
At the last gun show you took two of me shooters home.
You said you'd deburr and cowbouyzetize that 92 pour moi.
And you know 'bout t'uther won too.

I'll say yewzse gitt'in Awwltimerzse.

Always wunderd how you've ackummyewlayted so's many shooters.
Dang rascal, yuh borrow them for time unknown only tew yerself.

Heav'ins tuh merrgittroid........:onCrack:

If you don't know where or when you got them...how do you know you haven't fired them? Jeez, for all you know, you've been to Antarctica stalking penguins with the Swede, and maybe you used the 92 on one of those backyard deer that are pestering you...that could be why they haven't been around for the past few days! You should walk the property a bit, and try to find a familiar-looking gutpile to jog your memory. :)

Seriously...that's a nice problem to have. I know where and when I got all of my guns...the closest I come to your conundrum is wondering why I bought some of 'em!

What kind of vault do you have? I keep checking mine and never find new firearms in the back of it, I must have the wrong kind.

The above gentlemen are both trying to capitalize on our lapse.

You were installing a peep sight for me on the 92 and a 2.5-8x40 leupold on the other. You should have all the components as well, not to mention the nice cognac for your trouble.

=p

I actually think maybe they are reproducing.........the 6.5 could well be the off spring of the CZ 550 FS 9.3X62 mating with the CZ 550 FS in 7X64.......it certainly looks like it's mother, same PG shape and checkering pattern......As to the Miroku, I could hazard a guess as to the mother (Miroku/Win 92 44 RM) but with more than 80 leverguns in there all stacked close together the father would be anyones guess !!!!

My vault is a 12X12 room in my basement.........plenty of room for shenanigans when I'm not looking and the lights are out.

JJohn..........I gave up trying to figure out WHY, many, many moons ago.......some just 'cause they're pretty, some 'cause they're really old, some 'cause they were to good a deal to turn down at the time, some 'cause they're in a cartridge I wanted to play or hunt with, and on, and on, and on, ad nauseum........did I mention some just 'cause they're pretty..........

What percentage of them do you shoot on a regular basis? I understand having an appreciation for rifles, but we can only shoot a few big game animals a season here, my own preference is that if I don't use them then I don't need them, not to say your doing anything wrong, just curious as to how having 100's of nice rifles affects one's lifestyle.

Yes, Alzheimers is a terrible thing.
I have no idea how or when, but I seem to have misplaced two of my finest guns.

If anyone finds them, would you be so good as to return them?
Thanks!

We were talking about this phenomenon at the range today. I have gotten into the habit of putting a hang-tag on my guns to cross reference them to a spreadsheet. It helps me keep track of what I paid and why I have that gun. (Because, is good reason for many of them.)

CodyC........well it affects ones lifestyle to the point that I have to have 2 rooms devoted exclusively to firearms and reloading.

I would have to say that I use roughly 5 or 6 semi-regularly or shall we say I have a legitimate use for. I have a trap shotgun and a 10 ga for waterfowling and a sweet little 28 SXS for upland when I run out of 20 ga shells for my other upland SXS. I have my .470 NE to keep the elephants out of the garden, and them pesky herds of cape buffalo out of the horse pasture. I have my three 375s for general heavy game hunting, and my 2, 9.3s kinda cover the same ground. My 300 Wby is a perennial partner of mine and has accounted for many animals, my super ultra light 300 WSM I built exclusively for sheep and goat hunting, 10 years after I was too old and out of shape to hunt sheep and goats. I have my 257 Wby, 'cause I have always had one ever since my early 20s and I just couldn't stand to be without one, my 340 falls into the same category. I have hunted and taken game with both calibers but very infrequently. Then I have quite a few because they're very PRETTY. Then I have a very extensive collection of old Winchester levers, and a bunch of wildcats and works in progress..........Oh ya and a dozen or so handguns just 'cause I can..........

No, you don't have Dementia or Alzheimer's at all, as a matter of fact you have the exact opposite of any possible negative mental issue: you have what is called "Fine Taste Elation". It has been known to cause moments of such euphoria that it causes short term memory loss...

Just be glad you have them until the bill shows. :p

I just found another I have no recollection of........an original 92 in 25-20 with a 24" round barrel.........I already had one, not sure where the second one came from.........JEEEEEZZZZZEEEEE..........this is getting scary, never mind Christmas...........I have looked at them all now, so there will be no more surprizes.
I found a 3-9 Leupold for the 6.5X55 CZ 550 FS and mounted it up, tomorrow, weather permitting maybe I'll see how she shoots............and the 44-40, got 500+ loads for it so I think I'll sight it in as well.

The bride has given up trying to understand my addiction, as long as it doesn't affect the food on the table and the shoes on the kids feet she's quite willing to leave me to my addiction. I was into collecting cars for a few years and she thinks guns are much less money (which of course they are, when you're into 50-100K cars.............)
