Looking to get into reloading for 9mm (for now) and am leaning towards a loadmaster (would consider a Dillon but would need a really good sale price to justify $) but for MONTHS I've been watching this forum/wholesale sports and a few other places for sales but nothing.

Am I just missing some sales, being impatient or do these things never go on sale? Should I just bite the bullet and buy one full price? Anybody have insight on the best place/time to buy a nice progressive press?

Not really in line with your post, but I have a Lee Loadmaster and love it. I am new to reloading and it can pump out 9mm ammo faster than I can keep up.

Yes, the Loadmaster has little quirks, but most can be resolved by spending a few hours on Youtube.

I am sure Dillon's are nice, but can't beat the price of a Loadmaster for startup cost to see if this is something you will want to continue to do.

Personally i had a loadmaster but I had too many issues with priming, and the lack of a proper case feeder, so I bought a dillon 650 and its a much better press.

I still have the loadmaster but very rarely use it to just do some basic trial loading for my lead ammo

I had my progressive press shipped to a warehouse near the border in the US (when we lived near the border). Saved a ton, but you got almost one Yanqui dollar for a loonie back then.

You're right, I've yet to see progressive presses go on sale.

Prophet River has a sale on a single stage RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme (?) kit for $499 (taxes inc) and there's a $25US mail-in rebate on top of that.

Check e bay, last year I got a loadmaster combo deal with the dies and everything from a seller in Florida and it was very reasonably priced even with the shipping

Well I have no problem going new for a lee (would jump on a used 650 tho). It's just that I've been looking for months and have yet to find any progressive press's on sale being new to the scene I thought there may be some insight on here as to where/when they come on sale if at all.

This is NOT a Dillon vs lee thread god knows there are enough of those out there

I would take a good guess the crappy exchange rate is why they are not showing up for sale.

I got my Lee Pro 1000 for $200 shipped not even 5 years ago........I see them going for $330 area now.

X Reload had a sale on their Dillon XL650 9mm/38Super press about 3 weeks ago...I think I scooped the last one. With the crappy exchange rate, it was a better buy than ordering directly from Dillon.

X Reload had excellent customer service and shipping was prompt. Would definitely buy from them again.

Henry sells loadmasters for 380$ and x-reload for 355$. I'd pay the extra 25$ for a loadmaster over a pro 1000.

Now that I just checked x-reload, their pro 1000 are 261$.

To the OP: if you know someone who also want/need a press, team up and buy a dillon 650 together. Most people don't need a press every day, and if you find out that you do, then you can either buy your partner out or sell him your half a buy a new one. You can also go for volume on components and get better prices.

Not may sales on presses in Canada. Prophet River had a good one a while ago, but most of the sales are on the US side of the border and shipping can take some of the fun out of that. L

ately there has been some decent prices on the ee for used presses, but the good deals go fast and you need to watch closely or it's gone before you even knew it was there.

Buy once Cry once

Dillon is all you need .

If you need a sale price to justify buying a press, you might consider simply buying ammo

Dillon: Buy once, brag about it for the rest of your life. :)

RCBS is on for 449 at Prophet River. There is a rebate on now, but it says US only. I mailed in last year for the $50 rebate, which was almost $70cdn. I'm happy with the whole kit. Confirm with RCBS that they will honour the rebate for a Canadian.

I do have a spare dillon 550 , let me know if you are interested and your budget . I have extra parts / diffe dies etc etc . Maybe i can help you out . Just let me know
