I have a custom M98 that is on its 4th wood stock (3 walnut, 1 birch laminate) in 6 different finishes from shellac to poly to oil, 3 barrels, 2 safeties, 2 sets of iron sights, 3 metal finishes, 2 sets of bottom metal / trigger guards, 3 triggers, and 3 bolts. It's been tweaked to fire 3 calibres: 8x57, 7x57, and now 6.5x55.
I keep spending money on it like its the black hole of Calcutta, but still, I keep tweaking it. I could have bought 4 Sakos for what I've spent on it to date.
Do I need to get my head examined?

Why yes you do need a check up! But then again, they cost money , money that could be spent for your rifle! We both know what the doctor is going to do, prescribed tests! And we all know that the tests don't take long but! it's the weighting to take the tests that's the wast of time , time that you could have used working on and shooting your guns. It's a hobby and hobby's cost money! But if you enjoy what you are doing time is of little consequence. As for what you expend for pleasure it all depends on what you can afford. Besides if you are going crazy you might as well enjoy it ! Just my two cents worth! Insanity borders on the edge of brilliance! LOL!! Besides you are not alone!

I'd say it's all good except for one little thing.

You should have found another action to go with the other new bits every second time. There would be 8 guns to take to the range and compare side by side.

I wouldn't worry about it. Its about whatever floats your boat. I've spent lots of money on my suzuki samurai, to the point where I could have bought a new truck. You only live once, as far as we know, not much point in being the richest man in the graveyard. I've also got a fair bit of money wrapped up in rifles and hunting gear as well.

No,.....you just have to buy two more receivers and put everything together and leave them together....:)

I wouldn't worry about it unless you are going bankrupt doing it in which case you have a problem. It's your rifle play barbie with it to your heart's content. You're a peacock and you should be allowed to fly. :)

Well, by my standards you are probably certifiably nutz. But then again virtually all of us are to some degree, I say carry on with gusto but let's see some pics of your creations ASAP!!

Not if the rifle is one that you can't imagine being without. I question though why you've chosen cartridges that are so similar, whereas I might have gone .22X57, 6mm Remington, 7X57, and 9.3X57. I say keep buying barrels of greater variety for more versatility. If your barrels are all the same contour (getting a custom barrel maker to match the contours precisely might be challenging, particularly if he isn't turning them all out at the same time) you should be able to get by with one or two stocks; perhaps an ultralight Kevlar stock, and a standard hunting stock. A contour that produces a light weight medium bore, has a fair bit more meat to it as a small bore.

Some thought should be given to scope mounting options, since the more cartridge options you have, the more versatile the rifle becomes, and the more glass you'll want. I can see having 3 scopes to cover all circumstances' perhaps a 1-4X, a 2.5-8X and a 4-16X Certainly some sort of QD mounting system is appropriate, and although I favor the versatility of a Picatinny rail, I get they aren't for everyone.
