Is it just me or do others out there do crazy gun stuff too? I spent a couple hours yesterday experimenting and looking up which case was close to a 38-72 Win so I could load some and shoot my new 95. It is very similar to the 30-40 Krag but the Krag is too short and the rim is a touch too thin. Which left the 405, almost perfect except the rim is .015" too thick and .026" to large in dia. So I spent 2 hours today on the lathe thinning rims and reducing the dia to .620 to make up 40 cases for my 38-72. They turned out great though and I have them loaded with 235 gn Speer HC and 35gns of 3031 so if it ever warms up I'll be shooting my 38-72.

PS I'm going to do the same for my 40-72 as soon as I fire off another 40 405s

Sounds like you enjoy that sort of thing and so enjoying your hobby isn't crazy.

I've spend two hours carefully modifying 20 berdan primed milsurp 6.5x55 brass to accept boxer primers (or is it the other way around???), when commercial 6.5x55 brass was readily available...

These are things that gunnutz do...

Confirmed

You may be a bit out there, but I wouldn't go so far as calling you crazy. Other guys do even stranger things ... like get married ...

Was that my outside voice?!?

Oh sh1t, then there's no hope as I'm on my 4th wife, I truly am crazy!!!

I have found in my considerable experience with women is that they are wonderful beings but their tolerence wears out in about 3 years.!!!!!

See now that's sick, if I could order 38-72 I would. But to modify brass for 2 hours when you could buy it for $30.00 that is SICK, I'm not that crazy !!!

Thank you.....Thank you ........Thank you......!!!!!!

Hell, I'll give you 50-6.5 X 55 cases, snap out of it.

The secret is to find a lady that owns more guns than you.... happiness forever... :D

Buffalo Arms in the US carries 38-72 brass, although it isn't cheap. They don't export to Canada, unfortunately, but you could contact Henry Nierychlo of Budget Shooters Supply (CGN sponsor) who might be able to get it for you if you tire of making your own.

ps- most of us here on CGN are probably a little crazy. Only varies in the degree!

Ya I never had problems before getting anything but the new laws make it really crazy. I used to just phone up Fred Huntington and it'd be in the mail that day, NOT NOW!!! 40 is all I need and I'll make another 40 for my 40-72 and I'll be done with those 2. Actually they turned out very nice and never cost a cent (already had the 405 brass) so, what the hell, call me crazy.

Geez... you must be even older than I am :p Those days are long gone, alas.

Ironic that old gun-shy Canada has relatively few limitations on such things, but the Land of the Free and the Heavily-Armed has become paranoid. I can see the headlines now, "Prominent politician felled by single bullet from what forensic analysis reports to be an obsolete rifle."

Not quite that old I should have said Fred Jr.

Apparently you know me or think you do? If you've been here for more than 20 years chances are you do know me, if less then I say you're working on heresay.

I always work on heresay...seems to be more accurate than fact most days. ;)

(also in case you missed it from this morning I'm the guy screwing up everything in your shop.. :p )
