So here goes, after a long conversation with my friends about reloading it would appear I am the only one who hand loads every round.instead of a progressive press.

They all think I am crazy..but I enjoy the precision and results involved than just pulling a lever
-hand clean brass
-ram prime
-no power tools for case prep
-hand measure powder
-resizing/seating/etc..all done on a few lee hand press'


Am I the only one?
Do any of you guys prefer to do it more manually?

Are you talking pistol or rifle? I use a single stage for rifle ammo and a progressive for pistol. Id never load pistol with a single stage, I shoot waay to many rounds, id be loading for days on a single.

I don't feel i shoot pistol often enough to justify loading for now (I will cross that bring when it comes)...too many calibers to load for as well lol..
So to answer..for rifles :)
 
If I where loading hundreds or thousands of rounds for an AR-15 or something similar I'd use a progressive. Currently 95% of my shooting is bolt action, lever action, or single shots so I only load in batches of 20-50rnds per calibre so a progressive isn't really worth it. I'm also constantly doing load development with new projectiles or powder so am constantly adjusting the seating depth and powder charge.
 
My wife and I both shoot. She already shoots IPSC 9mm, and now I'm starting IPSC as well, 9mm. I also shoot CAS with 38 spl. I use a single stage RCBS and we also have a Lee single stage. My wife reloads as well. The couple that loads together, stays together!

:) I may have to borrow that last line if it's all fine and well with you. Would love to get into ipsc or tdsa....just don't have the time at the moment though..hope you both are having fun!
 
It just depends if you have a lot of free time.
I dont.
I progressive reload pistol and 223 semi auto ammo.
I would not do it single stage.
But I have limited free time with my business.

You and me, we go to the same church! lol Does take a bit more time, but I can tell you, EVERY ROUND IS my version of PERFECT.

Just got my first centrefire pistol the other day, and I do not predict single stage reloading will be as satisfying as for my .308.
 
depends what i am loading for, 12ga target loads get progressive, slugs and buck get single stage, rifle, all by hand, pistol, measure drops hand for the rest, seems to work for me!

I agree with the semi if I was shooting that much for quality..but doing plinking with an ar the norc ammo will do in a pinch for the price! Imho
 
I don't shoot enough pistol or semi auto miltary rifles to justify a progresive. However, I did invest in an auto powder measure and I love the thing. Instead of a single stage I went for a multi-turret press with removeable turrets so I dont have to re-adjust and re-install the dies after changing calibers. For me it is the best compromise between cost of equipment, quality control of ammo, and time spent at the reloading bench.
 
i reload 13 different calibers. none are pistols. I use two single presses. One set up to size and deprime. The other to seat the bullet. I load and weigh each powder load . not for accuracy, but rather for saftey ( i have seen what an overload can do to a gun). I enjoy the time i spend doing things so i can enjoy my hobby.
 
I reload all by hand as well. I can see where the progressive would be a bonus for the volume shooters, but as primarily a bolt guy, i like the single stage press. I think of it as my hobby when I'm not shooting.
