Am I nuts for thinking this?

I finally got my LMT 10.5" and love it, but the first thing I did was take of the KAC RAS and replace it with a Magpul MOE Carbine handguard. Am I going backwards here? I see these things are worth (edit: roughly) $300 used and I just replaced it with a $50 part.

Should I keep the RAS? Or sell it and come out ahead? Not sure what to do here, I really like the Magpul look tbh.

What are they worth? Someone told me that and I wasn't sure either. Seen some posted for around that price so didn't think it was that out to lunch.

If you have all the kit that goes with them, rail covers, forward grip, then post for $300. But, there have been a few of them sitting on the EE for a while at that price.

They're a good piece of kit but they're not as sought after as they were a few years ago. I have a set but am not thinking of getting rid of it.

I'm a fan of most Magpul products, but the MOE handguard has never been my cup of tea. I'd stick with the RAS, however, it's your rifle. Kit it out as you see fit. Price the rail reasonably and it will sell, otherwise it will sit.

I like to sell things quickly, Thanks for your advice. I don't like over pricing things, but not under either. Anyways, thanks guys, wasn't trying to turn this into an EE ad. ;)

As per the original question, it just feels strange? I ove the MOE handguards, feels really good in my hands too. Since I'll have this a while I'm going to stick with them.

When KAC stuff was next to impossible to get in Canada, a number of sets were brought in and IIRC they were initially flogged at around $400. As always, value is individual but I think they are worth around $150-200 now.

Not strange at all, the day of the quad rail is pretty much gone, the MOE handguard is lighter, more ergonomic and can mount accessories directly to it. If you think the MOE handguard is more comfortable, then rock it! It does look good too on the 10.5 LMT ;)

You're not crazy....your rifle looks awesome. I love the look of the magpul handguards and I don't mind plastic or the lightweight at all. That was the way I wanted to go with with mine for a long time but now I wan't the accuracy bonus of something free-float.

Nice gun! I hate you...anyways, I think it looks 'smoother' with the magpul. I'd keep the KAC stuff though, in case down the road (heaven forbid) you want to get rid of it or change it out for the sake of change.

Just about everyone either has gone, or is going to, a set up involving Key mod, or M Lock - even KAC. As an example of the quad rail, the KAC stuff is excellent, but as noted, the days of the heavy pic rail forend are almost done. Set your rifle up the way you want it, with the stuff that works for you. The only real issue with the MOE forend is that it doesn't give you extra top rail for sighting devices, which, if you don't need a laser, magnifier and red dot and back up iron sight on the same plane isn't an issue.

When the rifle first came into existence, it was with a polymer hand-guard.

I can respect the idea of returning to that in an updated way.

I went for the SL setup on my (not nearly as nice) baby-AR15:

If you aren't going to mount a IR Laser/Illuminator which is unlikely and aren't concerned about shooting super small groups just being able to be achieve good combat accuracy then the MOE is great. A lot of the local PDs back home in the US where I live issue a 11.5" Colt Commando with the MOE handguards, MOE Stock, Aimpoint T1/T2, Surefire M600 and the MOE mount for them. My personal beater rifle/truck gun back in the US has one of the Mlok MOEs they are a good piece of kit.

That NEA looks pretty damn good, I wouldn't get too jealous. ;)

I have yet to shoot this thing, but I'm excited to get her out there. Funny thing is I just might leave optics out of the equation. All I have here right now is the Holosun 503 and it's not high enough to clear that rear sight. May stay mechanical for the time being.
