Ordinary rifles that people are asking over 2-3 times what I would consider a reasonable price. These aren’t collector pieces (despite what the ad may say) - run if the mill calibres such as 308 Win.

I would point some of the ads out but don’t want to over step etiquette.

I would suggest your not out of touch , but rather others not so much.
From the catalogue in 1970 that $179.00 (if it was Canadian $) would be in the ball park of $1200 to $1300.

That's actually a really important observation, thanks for pointing that out. Remember that would have been pretty soon after Winchester dumbed down the 1894, too.

However, I bet that in 1970 a used (or well-used) 1894 was not selling for 90% (or more) of the 1970 retail price!

There is crazy price. Many ask new price for used gun.
Mil Surp is out of control. But as long as people pay that kind of stupid price…that will go on.
 
I follow EE several times daily. There are very good buys that pop up, but they are almost immediately snapped up. I hesitated on one yesterday for five minutes and it was sold. The flip side is that if you want to move some guns fast, if you put a reasonable price on them, they will sell the same day.
 
Good deals in the EE can still be had.not long ago I picked up,a beautifull .35 remington JM stamped 336 for $725 shipped,once I had it in my hands and shot it I realized I got a heck of a deal.looks like it was not even fired,also came with nice xs ghost ring sights.

Saw a nice. 44 Ruger on here for $850 that went like hot cakes.for the most part prices are crazy high,to get a good deal you need to babysit the EE lol.
 
I don’t think that the OP is out of touch. Seller can list an item for whatever price he wants. I don’t mind that. Many are expecting to double or triple the money they paid 2-3 years ago. There is no point in trying to talk any sense to these folks. Let them be. Most of them will never sell these items. Some will. I am lucky enough to continue buying stuff that I like for the prices that I am willing to pay. The only problem is that these deals are gone as soon as they pop up here on CGN. Few will be listed for couple of days. One or two for weeks.
 
I just used a couple of inflation calculators to calculate how much $189 is worth in today's dollars, they gave me a figure of just over $700, a rifle I bought in 1978 for $189 is for sale for $1450, I guess there is more at play here, I am out of touch.
