Funny, I didn't know you only carried a gun (where legal:rolleyes: ) to stop guncrime. What about muggings, knives, baseball bats...ect. A friend of mine just outside of scotland ontario, (ie, middle of no where) had a house invasion 3 doors down, three jamacian fellows with guns walked in and tied up the son and wife and ransaked the house. Do you only put your seatbelt on when your going to be in an accident? What, you wear it all the time? Doesen't that make you paranoid? Or does it just make sense to be prepared. I don't put my motorcycle helmet on because I plan on bouncing my noggin of some dillweeds hood, but it could happen and I like the idea of some fiberglass and foam between the bumper and the brain box, that doesen't make me paranoid either, just sensible. Boy scout thinking man, be prepared.

More urban Canadian myth! Violent crime rates are significantly higher here in Canada than most areas of the US. If you think otherwise look it up! B.C. at around 1500 violent crimes per 100,000 compare to North Dakota at 58 and Nevada at 550.

Stats Canda released survey comparing the three Western Provinces violent crime rates with the bordering states and the rates weren't even close.

Nice to be smug we Canadians but the damm Yankees are doing something right. One they lock up their criminals and two they allow honest law abiding citizens the right to protect themselves.

Oh right the undermanned RCMP are our protectors.

I believe VT is the only state where you can carry concealed without a permit (except in the two "major" cities, etc).
What other state are you referring to?

Vermont is unique in that permits are not required for carry concealed or unconcealed for resident and non-resident alike. Local ordinances vary, though. VT has no statutes concerning concealed carry, nor is there a specific statute that allows it. In the absence of a statute that prohibits it, then it is taken that there is no law against it.

Surely you're not suggesting you have no "need" for self protection in any possible scenario, just because we live in <drum roll> ...Canada.

Richard - No, I think you were "bang on" . At least, that's what I would have done too. :)

I would be concerned that the bad people would come, and I would feel really dumb with my gun and no ammunition.

Take a watermelon and throw it out of your car window at 25mph. Thats what happens to your head without a helmet.
I really don't mind people riding without helmets, its just that they tie up so much hospital space when they fall off and the traffic tie up while the accident scene is investigated. Ambulance drivers should be picking up sick people instead of bloody body parts.
Gary Busey was only doing about 12mph when he came off, and he was damm lucky.
Then there was the clown I saw on a bike last summer wearing shorts and flip flops. His girlfriend on the back has some additional protection, a tube top!:rolleyes:
You could be the safest biker on earth, but there's that guy in the SUV who decided to make a lane change without checking his side morror, or the little old lady who decides to turn in front of you. Not to mention the ones who think they can make it through the intersection before the yellow light goes to red.

At the risk of hijacking this thread, I would just like to say:
I like people who ride with-out a helmet.
They make great organ donors and my mother needs a kidney.
