Am I seeing things? Noob gas block question

While I was cleaning the barrel on my 858 I noticed a small "cut" or crack, hole ? ... on the inside , right were the gas block system is.

Is there supposed to be some kind of hole ? or something of that nature there?
I really hope its not a crack ....

I would take a picture if I could, but I cant seem to get the camera to focus down there and take a clear shot... ( even on macro mode )...

Anyways, can someone edumacate me ? :p
 
Bonus points if you can tell me why it's called a gas system :D


Not to be a ####, but how did you get your PAL :p (ok, I was a #### there, but I'm in a vindictive mood, disregard me)

broncoo's answer seems right but to be a 100% sure a pic would be nice.
 
Maybe he is referring to the bleed off port's or maybe it is a crack. But I don't think we should jump to conclusions or put some one down just because they don't know something.

Well, I think I got my question solved now.

Ahh, yess, the good ol' bleed off port / gas system area thing, Gotcha.

This shall be the end of that ! ( I hope )
