Am I the only one that wont run cheap ammo such as Norc through my AR?

I refuse to pay the inflated prices on ammo in this country. Give me all the surplus #### that you don't want and I'll fire it all!

Retailers are probably making more money per round on Norinco ammo than they do on other brands. It may cheaper but it's still inflated.
No proof of this just a guess figuring they are probably getting it dirt cheap.

What rifle are you using that has had problems with every brand out there? Sounds more like a rifle or magazine issue than an ammo issue.

I've owned a few guns in the last 40 years, and EVERY ammo company produces some amount of crap, every week. You can pay a premium price for it, or bargain basement for it, but eventually, you'll find crap from every maker. You just have to shoot enough.

Another silly preaching to the converted thread. Since everyone already made up their mind on cheap/economical vs. quality/overpriced ammo what is the point.

Yup, no norc ammo for me. I have a few norc pistols and I love them all, but I don't like the ammo. I spent over $2,500 building my custom AR and I will not blow it up with some bad ammo from China. It's a double standard I know but it's my choice to make. That's the beauty of living in Canada.

Anyways just thought I'd see what everyone's opinion is on this...

Thanks.

If you really want to know, shoot some norc, and then you will have your own opinion. Live a little .. :)

Did Federal do a recall a few months ago? .... all ammo you do not load your self for your spacific rifle can have problems. Posters here with defective mags, firing pins, and a whole lots of other reasons for FTF etc. blame the ammo .. and as the most ammo used for the last years has been Norc surplus it willl get the bulk of the blame.

When Winchester white box or AE is 0.40$ a round or less I'll start shooting it. I'm not a bench rest shooter looking for the tightest groups. I shoot gongs, Gophers and coyotes. My ACR eats a steady diet of Norc and I'm probably 1800-2000 rounds in with zero failures. 2" groups at 100 kill just as well as 0.5" groups

Good ammo goes bang, groups tighter, cycles properly and burns cleaner too. In the end, you get what you pay for.

I haven't used any other .22 rimfire ammo. then CCI Mini-Mag's or Stingers in over twenty years since having failures to cycle from cheaper #500Rd. boxes of some of the more affordable stuff on the market. I have never in the many several thousand rounds of CCI .22 rimfire fired had any issues with it at all, never. For 9mm 115Gr. Selles and Belliot have been flawless in a few thousand rounds fired. American Eagle for .45 ACP did the trick with no complaints. Otherwise it's Winchester for my .308 Winchester calibered firearms.

Like Yohann stated, good quality ammo. is worth the extra expense every time you pull the trigger. For me the knowledge that I can trust my chosen ammo. to work and work well each and every time I need it to is an expense happily paid.

Ae bulk 1000 rds is 450 at the ammo source. Pretty close to the .40/rd

this is gonna be out of topic, but, are you hunting with FMJ ammo ?

I swore I'd never use Norinco ammo in my AR's.
Last spring however I was down to my last 2,000 projectiles and there weren't any more in sight for less than $160/1,000 so I ordered 2 crates of Norinco to have as backup while my order of 6,000 Hornady 55gr FMJ with cannelure came in.

At first I tested them through my Norinco CQ-A and when I had no issues with them I tested them through both my Stag 3G and my Noveske Afghan.

The group sizes through both the Stag and Noveske are good enough to easily stay in the A zone of an IPSC target at 100y with plenty of room to spare.

The ammo is non corrosive, brass cased and has no steel in either the jacket or the core to cause any more damage to barrels over American ammo.

I still have a little over a crate left of the same lot number so I'm hoping that the rest of this ammo will be as problem free as the ones that I have already used.

I have a fully progressive press so as long as I can find components I can crank out $0.23 practice ammo.

I use to think this way, until i tried it, they go bang, they are accurate , hot and cheap, my 500.00 or 3000.00 rifles dont see the difference, after shooting a bunch, i can say they are no worst than cheap AE ot WWB.... But that is just me, i believe in a trial and error system, what you ear is often exagerated so i do my own experiences and that it... JP.

Just checked Ammo Source and it is $460/1000 plus shipping plus tax which in Ontario works out to .55/rd (not close to .40/rd). Canada Ammo Norc is currently $319/1120 plus tax which works out to .32/rd. That means shooting the norc ammo saves you $230 vs the bulk AE from SFRC (per 1000 rounds). $230 saved per 1000 buys a lot of $200 barrels or even a few fancy-schmancy cr5 barrels ;)

I run norcs 5.56 through my Norc AR. No issues. Only issue I have is that I am down to 50 rounds left. All depends on what type of shooting you wish to do, which dictates what type of ammo you wish to use... factory, reloads, etc. For me, as long as I can place my shots with in a circle at 100 - 200 yards, that's good enough for me. Tight groupings is not my goal nor my interest with an AR.

I've run the Norinco through my ARs and other 223/5.56 rifles without any issues.

The only one that ever had an issue was an SL8 since the Norinco ammo has some pretty hard primers.

If you have a light hammer spring in your AR it will likely have light primer strikes.
