Am I the only one that wont run cheap ammo such as Norc through my AR?

I normally buy whatever is cheapest. The only reasons why I'm not running Nork ammo through my DPMS is the concern about undersized rounds (I see that as a bad thing) that has been brought up in a thread or two around here, wonky cases (again, I heard/read it here first) and my gun is still under "warranty." Until that time frame is up, I'll be running a steady diet of PMC, UMC, AE and WW. By the time my supply runs dry, I should have enough brass left over to really sit down and do some hand loading, or get some Tula or Nork.

That being said, if I owned a Nork AR, bet your ass I'd feed it Nork ammo. My M14 gets fed the cheap stuff. My CZ75B does too.

Tighter and/or varying tolerance of the rifle/chamber ?

There is so many different type of AR, not to mention upper assembly configuration that I'm amazed it's not yet been taken into account...

Other than Norinco rifles which are also a crap shoot if you get a good one every other rifle out there should have a SAAMI spec chamber so there should be very little chamber variation.

Buying Norinco 5.56 is a gamble. If I knew it was remotely consistent from crate to crate or lot to lot I would give it a try but I'm not willing to risk $370 then getting stuck with 1600 rounds of junk. Some of you have lucked out and got a good batch but there are too many bad crates out there for me to risk my money.

Good luck to all of you that buy it but it's not for me.

I'd hazard a guess that it's the same reason we have these threads:

1. Bear Defense
2. What is the best hand gun for a beginner
3. Storage Regs
4. Is this Restricted?
5. Will I get searched when I have over 10 restricteds in my name
6. ATC, how can I get one...

Come to think of it, I haven't seen a can I shoot into space thread for a while ;)

I think the Norc ammo threads are just a result of the ammo having too many crates of junk. How else could so many people have trouble with it?
 
Failure to properly maintain. Failure to build a rifle to specification, very few AR15's have a SAAMI spec 223 chamber (liability reasons) - and for a long time, most 556 chambers were not exportable - so some makers went with the Wylde, the M, some AR varmint guns have true match chambers, etc. Lets face it there are about 30 different 223/556 chambers out there, and very few people know what they actually have, or how to get the most from it. 10 or so years ago, everyone used small base dies for reloading for AR's, now not so much. That's why guys push the mil spec thing so hard.

Maybe. I wonder what the recent ratio of sales have been. Given norc's attractive price point and the 1600 round cases, could it be CGNR's are shooting a disproportionate amount of Norc ammo compared to typically more expensive brands?

so far, I've had good luck with it. Time will tell if that continues.

That sucks man, maybe its your rifle. I've bought more crates of the norinco 223 than I can count and never had a single issue.

What do you mean? I never have and never will run Norinco ammo through my rifles (maybe when the zombies come or when we get to WROL if I find a case somewhere).
I've witnessed it's performance through friends rifles and it seems like there is a new thread every week on this site about someone else having problems with it in their rifle.
I like my rifles too much to run Norinco. If I had cheap AR's with $200 barrels I might give it a shot but my barrels are expensive. I'm not risking them just to save a couple dollars and to make some noise and 6 inch groups.
I shoot factory ammo for small groups and good brass for reloading. Norinco provides neither.

That's great you've been lucky so far and haven't gotten a bad case but that doesn't mean it's good ammo.
You're free to run as much of it as you like but I'll never risk my rifles with it.

You're right about one thing, it's not good ammo. it's great ammo.
 
I purchased 2 spam cans of Norinco and I can not bring myself to shoot it in my rifle. I hate junk and I would hate even more if that junk screwed up my quality item.
