Am I truly THAT effing weird? (one man's rant)

Wow. I would rank the Axis trigger (pre mods) at almost the worst trigger that I've ever tried on a hunting rifle. Sure, the accuracy is sickening, but I find I rarely shoot mine even after modifying the trigger. It sucks.

You are one strange dude.

I'd most likely find something to dislike about it anyways, so it's a non-issue. I ended up biting the bullet and picking up an Axis without the accutrigger, and much to my surprise, it's the same trigger setup as the Stevens out of the box. Smoothing it out should be easy enough, unless I decide to play musical trigger packs. But the stock is abominable. At least it doesn't flex as much as a Stevens does. At under $300 once all was said and done, I figured the flaws were just barely tolerable.

Not only am I picky, but I'm cheap too.

So this perception of yours that accutrigger=bad has lead you to the bic lighter of rifles, I see... I wish you well. :)

So... all this hating on the Accu-Trigger and bashing on various platforms and you buy an "AXIS" sans Accu??? Man, you are a complicated dude... as bad as you say the trigger is, it was the best thing about the Axis... that and I suppose it goes bang when you squeeze the trigger... and it gets a lot of students and children out shooting...

X2

I'm starting to think an Accu-trigger killed his puppy when he was a small boy! Am I truly THAT effing weird? YES. YES YOU ARE!

It was the closest thing to my much loved Stevens that I could find. And the extra trigger I have fit real nice. That one is smooth, albeit a little heavy. SAV-1 is on order and about 25% less the cost of a Timney.

The words "picky" and "Axis" shouldn't really be used in the same sentence.

When all I wanted was a Stevens 200, yes I can.

I'm inclined to agree with you there. Even my old-assed pre-accutrigger 110 had a nicer trigger. Ditto with my Nork M14, and Lakefield Mk II. But it's better than an SKS.

Strange doesn't even BEGIN to describe me. Just ask the guys I ride with, or my girlfriend. Or my parents.

I guess it did. But you forgot part of the equation... It's more like (Accutrigger+my fat fingers)x(bad previous experience/ease of frustration^rage)=BAD. But like I mentioned... I really wanted a Stevens 200.

I never was small. I've always been huge. Lets put it this way, if the gun doesn't make me happy, it'll go to the g/f, because she likes it. Then I'll buy the Weatherby. Just be happy I didn't buy a Rem 710. ;)

I currently have two accu-trigger guns at the moment.A 93R .22mag and 20 guage 220

I hate them both. ONLY because of the "training wheel trigger" (Thanks looky lol)

So many better triggers out there, I'm pretty sure I seen someone on here that had the blade removed from the trigger and it just worked like a normal one. I wouldn't do that myself though.

I'm sure you will be happy with the Rifle Basix. I put a Sav-1 on my Axis and it is my favourite trigger by far. The Axis is really a pretty good rifle as far as function. It's just the triggers on some are brutal. I own two and one is not too bad of a trigger and the other had to get a Sav-1.

I have a SAV-2 on my .223. It is a thing of beauty.

CHAS had a sniper match today, and one of the guys had his Model 10 out, and a new shooter was having all kinds of grief with resetting it on it, despite being coached. All I could say to him (the owner of the gun, not the shooter at the time) was "That's why I hate the Accutrigger."

I don't see what's so hard about using an accu trigger .. If it's so complicated practice dry firing 3 times, if you haven't figured it out by than ... Well...

I tend to like it as it gives a slight warning your getting close to the real trigger as you focus on your game , more so when you have it tuned rather low

Browning A-Bolt III wouldn't be a huge stretch of your budget, I think they chamber them in .308...

Accutrigger does nothing for me either, it wouldn't bug me, but it's not a feature I would pay any extra for.

EDIT: Just read this thread to the end, disregard my recommendation.

Necropost!!!

But for the record, the accu-trigger is crap, in any form. I have a feeling that all those praising it have never fired a rifle with an actual good clean crisp trigger.

I have lots of time on other good triggers and really like the accutrigger. Shoot F class with one actually. I have a feeling those that hate the accutrigger, do so for other reasons. Like how a teenager tries to fit a "clique".

I have lots of guns, some with the accutrigger, it makes no difference to me.

Its kind of nice as a safety feature, you know if you have been rough handling your rifle and it keeps it from firing if you have. A simple lift of the bolt handle resets the trigger and away you go

Savage now has the Axis II, with accutrigger and "walnut stock"...pretty much covers the complaints one hears about the original axis rifles. :)

I like the accutrigger in a hunting rifle and the wood stock on the axis will save on the cost of a Boyd's....one other thing you can be sure of is these rifles will be on sale for a great price somewhere soon! :)

I think you pretty much hit it bang on. :)
