Hey All,

I inherited a sporterized Lee-Enfield No1 MK3. It hasn't been fired in 30 years. During a cleaning this summer the fore-end cracked (likely dried out) and is separated from it. Because this is sentimental, I'd like to replace it and ideally range fire it a few times.

Is this something I can do myself? There is only light surface rust here and there on the metal. Is it safe to assume its good to fire? I called a local gunsmith and he told me it wouldn't be worth it for him to look it over and it should be fine to fire.

Thoughts? All the help is appreciated.

I'll try and post pictures in a week or so if that helps.

Replacement wood sets can be found. The butt bolt is sometimes timed square into the fore stock, so it's fore off first and on last. Can be done to just make a shooter pretty easily.
