Given the recent .22 ammo frenzy I am always on the lookout.... Was out picking some unrelated stuff and asked if I could buy some of the larger boxes of Yellow Jacket. When the girl replied yes, I was elated. It was only on my way out to the car that I realized that they retailed for $39.99! Luckily I bought two bricks. Honestly, I hadn't purchased YJ by the brick before and first thought that maybe it was "smaller" brick. I had the urge to rush back in and buy more but thought that might look suspicious.

Lucky break for me.

I have accumulated a few bricks by being inquisitive. Not very often do I get what I want AND a price break as well!

And don't bother asking where it was as they were running low. :)

Good luck on the hunt for the stuff.

$40 brick is not bad! They shoot well in my Rem yellow Jacket 597. The killing effect on gophers is High. These and Mini-mags are my go to for gophers (depends on the gun of the day). Not my target rounds.

40 bucks a brick is the same type of piracy that low life retailers sink to during a disaster and sell water at 5 bucks a bottle. Kiss my A$$.

Unfortunately $40 a brick appears to be the new norm. Reliable, AmmoSupply.ca and Del Selins, all reputable sponsors, are charging this for Federal Champion bricks which appear to be one of the few types of ammo in relatively good supply. A guy at Del Selins was telling me on Friday that this is the only .22 ammo they have received in 9 months and that their wholesale price is higher than what they recently sold this ammo for retail.

You will find it hard to find it less than $5 box. I still have a case + from when it was much cheaper. If you find ammo that shoots well why not get as much as you can afford (with in reason) and not have to keep looking. I have many boxes of shells that do not shoot well in any of my guns. Even at a couple $ a box they sit so were very expensive. Just my way of looking - YMMV

Both Canadian tire and walmart in lethbridge have oodles of YJ bout $5.70 a box. They just so happen to shoot pretty good in my mark II's up until 100 yards. So I use em. But they're not exactly cheap :(

I think the days of a $19.99 brick of anything are gone.

Then Crappy Tire falls into that category. Yesterday I had to pay $45 total for a brick of Dynapoints, that's all they had and I went to 3 stores to find it.

Where abouts are you?

LeBaron in Markham has Winchester 222 round boxes (same Super X rounds as the 555 and 333) for $10.36

At some point there will be a glut on the market and prices will come back down, well unless the democrats win again and they start screaming "they're going to take all our guns" again. I swear it's the ammo companies that start these rumours. :(

I agree. Increased production will get us a drop in pricing whenever supply is met.

As the OP to this thread I need to fess up: I have been out of the rimfire game for years and I completely confused the pricing of a single 500 brick with the 1000 pack of M22 I bought previously. DOH. Not such a good deal then. Still, supply seems very inconsistent at best and lots of places don't have anything above a box available. Given that, I would probably buy it again if it came available.

I will stick with the value of being inquisitive. On Friday I was at Reliable to pick up a box of 45-70 for the "truck gun" and asked what CZ455 they had in stock. The girl handed me a used but mint CZ455 Lux. 10 minutes later and I was walking out the door. Ahhh, that's how it is supposed to work!!! And they even threw in a bag so I wouldn't freak out some yuppie on my way to the vehicle. Thanks guys!

My eldest son REALLY likes cycling the bolt action. It might even displace the BL22 as his favorite. Either way, it looks like I will need to keep stocking up on 22lr so I won't be making that pricing error again!

Thanks for being gentle with my initial post! :)
